Miranda Lambert is celebrating a milestone moment as a songwriter and is congratulating Morgan Wallen on his eighth No. 1 single, “Thought You Should Know.”

The country superstar took to social media on Monday afternoon (Feb. 27) to share a celebratory message as the tune she helped Wallen pen alongside Nicolle Galyon hit the top of the charts at Country radio.

“Congrats @morganwallen on your number 1 song ‘Thought You Should Know,’” Lambert wrote. ”Proud to be a writer on a song about your mama! This is the first number 1 song I’ve ever had as a writer. We did good that day y’all. Cheers friends. @nicatnitemusic.”

She also shared a clip of herself high-fiving Wallen in her Instagram stories, which she captioned, “High 5 to good songs @morganwallen.”

Nicolle Galyon also celebrated the milestone on her Instagram.

“My text messages are telling me we have a multi-week number 1 with Thought You Should Know. everything about this one feels like a blur. the day it was written (aug ‘20). the life that has transpired since. the fact that it was chosen as a single. the manner in which it rocketedup the charts. it’s been harder for me to absorb as fast as i’ve been running lately,” Galyon wrote. “Would be remiss to not give a huge thanks to MW & ML for showing up this day to write (especially when there was no obvious record to write for that day! – a reminder to just write to write). and to @stacytw and the Big Loud radio team for making my first ever big loud single as a writer a big one.

Morgan Wallen Recently Opened Up About Writing With Miranda Lambert And Nicolle Galyon

Wallen recently co-hosted Country Countdown USA alongside Lon Helton, where he chatted about writing “Thought You Should Know” with Miranda Lambert and Nicolle Galyon.

“So, I had the idea for the song and I had the first verse and obviously for my mom, but I wanted a woman’s perspective, you know, for this song just to get that cause I don’t have that, obviously,” Wallen explained. “So I know that Nicole is one of the best female and one of the best songwriters just in general. And then she asked me if I was okay if Miranda joined us and I said, ‘No, no, no.’ *laughs* But yeah, she came in and we wrote this one first.”

He then revealed that “Thought You Should Know” isn’t the only song the trio wrote. “Then we wrote three or four more songs that day,” Wallen added.

The East Tennessee native went on to reveal Lambert and Galyon’s reactions when Wallen first introduced his idea for the song to them.

“They were all in, they thought it was great. You know? I think it is not just a sweet song, it’s real. It comes from a very real place. So I think that that’s what they probably liked about it,” Wallen continued. “And they immediately had ideas. They helped me change a couple things that I had already there. And then we wrote the second verse and did some other things, but they were inspired immediately and we got that done pretty quick.”

The Tune Is Wallen’s 8th No. 1 And Lambert’s First No. 1 As A Songwriter

“Thought You Should Know” marks Wallen’s 8th career No.1 at country radio, following his latest No.1, “You Proof,” and Lambert’s first-ever No. 1 as a songwriter on a tune that was recorded by another artist.

The song, which was most-added at Country radio upon release, comes in the form of a phone call to his mom, Lesli, and finds the country hitmaker giving her an update on his life and all the things that he has gone through recently.

“What’s going on mama? / Something’s just dawned on me / I ain’t been home in some months / Been chasing songs and women / Making some bad decisions / God knows I’m drinking too much / Yeah, I know you’ve been worrying ‘bout me / You’ve been losing sleep since ’93,” Wallen sings.

Wallen brought the chart-topping hit to life with a music video, released last year on Thanksgiving day.

The music video features personal home footage of the Wallen family as well as clips of Wallen performing the heartfelt tune in a studio space as his mother, Lesli, watched on and sang along from behind the camera in a director’s chair.

Directed by Justin Clough, the “Thought You Should Know” music video concludes as Wallen’s mother walks over to him as the song comes to a close and the mother and son share a sweet moment as they hug and laugh together.

The Song Will Appear On Wallen’s Forthcoming New Album, One Thing At A Time

“Thought You Should Know” is one of 36 tracks on Wallen’s forthcoming new album, One Thing At A Time.

Arriving on March 3, One Thing At A Time will feature 36 new songs, including duets with Eric Church, HARDY and ERNEST. Wallen’s sister Ashlyne will also make an appearance on the project, singing harmonies on the song titled “Outlook.”

“This record represents the last few years of my life, the highs and the lows,” Wallen previously shared in a statement. “It also brings together the musical influences that have shaped me as an artist – country, alternative and hip-hop.”

The U.S. leg of the tour begins on April 14 with back-to-back nights at Milwaukee’s American Family Field and will wrap up on October 7 at Tacoma Dome in Washington.
