McCoy Moore is poised to become the next big country music star, and he is armored with the material and talent to do so, as evidenced by his brand new debut single, “Something To You.” Written by the Moore alongside Colton Venner, Johnny Clawson and Will Weatherly and produced by Will Bundy, this track is about creating memories out of just about anything.

McCoy Moore Drops Nostalgic Debut Single, “Something To You”

With vocals reminiscent of Blake Shelton, Moore captures the feeling of nostalgia as he takes listeners on a journey to where it all began. Paying tribute to Lakeland, Florida, where he grew up, Moore offers plenty of visuals for listeners, citing the field off of Highway 35 and a dated baseball on a shelf that tells a story.

Further unveiling his universal message that things that are often taken for granted are what become meaningful overtime, Moore sings, “Red dirts just dust ‘til you’re kicking it up / Springsteen’s just a song ‘til you’re falling in love / Cold beer’s just a buzz ‘til you’re circling up/ ’round a fire on a Friday / It’s just a truck ‘til you’re 16, free / And, it’s just a town ‘til you finally leave / No it don’t mean nothin’ when there’s nothing to lose / ‘Cause everything’s just something ‘til it’s something to you.

The Lyrics To The Track Speak Volumes To Moore

Those lyrics speak volumes to Moore, who moved from Florida to Nashville, Tenn., in 2020 to pursue a career in country music because the decision to build a new life didn’t come without the feeling that he was leaving everything behind. Despite the love and pride he has for his hometown, the rising 23-year-old singer/songwriter says he doesn’t regret moving to Music City.

“The day before I moved to Nashville, I drove around my hometown, and there was a moment where I just lost it,” Moore told Music Mayhem of the vulnerable feeling he had when packing up his bags while discussing his connection to “Something To You.” “It was like, ‘Dang. Everything I’ve known from the day — I was born in this town — to now is about to change tomorrow. I didn’t realize it before I got up here, but I got up here, and it is the best decision I ever made. But also, it was tough. You don’t realize how much you’re missing out on.”

“You’ll never get to be a kid again. People aren’t circling up around a bonfire anymore and doing all that stuff,” he continued. “It doesn’t hit you the same when you’re in your twenties and you’re not 17 anymore. So I just wanted to have that nostalgic thing that got people thinking about that and maybe doing it again.”

Deep Connection To The Song Lead To It’s Release

Moore isn’t the only one to form a deep connection to “Something To You.” He says upon hearing the demo, other folks were hooked.

“I knew it was great the day we wrote it. Kind of the same thing with another song that I have called ‘Bible And A Bar.’ That song and ‘Something To You’ are the two [songs] that just stuck around. But I didn’t want to lead off with ‘Bible And A Bar’ because it’s a little more sad,” he said. “‘Something To You,’ I knew felt right. It was getting pitched around so much and everybody was talking about it. People heard the demo of it, and they were like, ‘Who is singing this?’ And it was just that thing. So, it felt right to lead off with that one. It definitely is me to a T.”

When sitting down with his co-writers for the track, Moore says, the foursome let the song lyrics come pretty organically.

“We did not have anything the day that we wrote it, nothing. And then Johnny, I think, was just like, ‘Is this cool?’ And he said the hook, and we were like, ‘Yep, we’re going to do that.’ So yeah, man, it kind of came out of nowhere,” he explained. “It felt like a really solid song to just lead off with. And I knew it was great the day we wrote it.”

“Something To You” Includes A Nod To Eric Church’s “Springsteen”

Moore also explained why he added the ‘Springsteen’ lyric as a nod to Eric Church.

“Honestly, it’s just like every time I hear that song, even to this day, you hear the opening of the little thing, and I’m like, ‘Oh my gosh.’ It is classic, and the lyrics in that song, it feels like I’ve lived it, even if I haven’t lived that specific story,” he said. “I think it’s one of the best-delivered breakup songs or, in some ways, love songs that have ever been done.”

To Appear On Forthcoming Debut EP

Leading up to the release of “Something To You,” Moore teased the tune on Instagram, including videos of himself singing along to some of the tune’s lyrics. As previously shared, he said he has another already-completed track called “Bible And A Bar” — which he also teased on Instagram. Along with that, he has plenty of other songs in the works that are just as radio-ready and relatable to “Something To You.” While Moore has not shared a release date for his next single, or project, he says fans can expect “Something To You” to appear on his forthcoming debut six-track EP.

“We cut six songs in late November [of 2024], and we got the masters back as, I mean literally, the first week of January when I got back to Nashville. And so it was so fast, and I mean it is wild, but we’re going to try to put out a song every six weeks,” he promised. “I mean, this summer, we will put out the EP.”

What’s Next For McCoy Moore?

The rising country star, who has an exclusive booking and artist development deal with The Neal Agency, says that looking ahead toward the future, he hopes to one day make his Grand Ole Opry debut and has plans to embark on a tour and hit the festival circuit this summer.

Moore added, I’m going to hit the road as much as I possibly can, as much as they’ll let me, and I’m going to keep writing songs. I’ve made it very clear to everybody that I am not… Yes, I am an artist, but at the core, I care about songs over everything and songs come first in my mind. So, I’ve made it a point to continue to fill my schedule with writes as much as I can and do that.”

He continued, “We talked about the Opry, that would be something that I would absolutely love to do. I’m looking forward to the festivals this summer, meeting people, hearing stories, and meeting the people in these tiny towns all across the U.S. and the world. But, I genuinely think that I feed off of interaction with people. I don’t like to call ’em fans. But I feed off of interaction with them. And that is the thing that I look forward to the most, just hitting the road and meeting people all across everywhere. But yeah, those are my goals. Just keep writing songs that mean something and meet everybody I can’t.”
