Luke Grimes will star in the “Choosin’ Texas” music video alongside Ella Langley and a star-studded group of friends. The Yellowstone and Marshals actor will appear in Ella Langley’s upcoming “Choosin’ Texas” music video, joining a star-studded lineup that includes country superstar Miranda Lambert,
“You Ain’t Gotta Die (to Be Dead to Me)” singer Kaitlin Butts, world champion bull rider J.B. Mauney, and Ava Phillippe, the daughter of Reese Witherspoon.

Grimes confirmed the cameo during an exclusive interview with Music Mayhem, revealing that the opportunity came together naturally. “I just did her music video for ‘Choosin’ Texas.’ So we got to act together a little bit,” Grimes shared of filming the music video for her record-breaking hit, which went on to become her first-ever multi-week Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit. The song has also become the longest-running No. 1 hit by a female country artist in the chart’s history.

Luke Grimes was asked to star in the music video and happened to be in the right place at the right time, so it worked out perfectly for him to take part.

“We got an ask to see if I would do it. And it worked out time-wise and I was in the right place,” Grimes, who is gearing up to release his sophomore album Red Bird on April 3, explained. He also added that he is a big fan of Langley and “Choosin’ Texas,” which he called the “catchiest” song he’s heard in a long time.

“I love that song. I think it deserves to be as big as it is. It’s the catchiest thing in forever, and I can’t get it out of my head. And yeah, I’m always down to help collaborate with a fellow artist, and I’m a big fan of her, so why not?” Grimes continued.

Langley recently shared a teaser clip of the music video, which drops on Wednesday (April 1) at 5:30 PM CT on YouTube. The snippet features Langley alongside Grimes, Lambert, who co-wrote the track, and Butts, a rising country star Langley has long supported. It also includes Ava Phillippe, who has modeled for Chanel Beauty, Dior Beauty, and Away and is known for her acting roles in Ransom Canyon (2025), Doctor Odyssey (2024), Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me, and more.

The teaser begins with Langley and Grimes riding in a truck entering Abilene, Texas, before flashing clips from throughout the yet-to-be released video, including Miranda Lambert performing in a honky tonk, Grimes and Langley slow dancing, and a quick shot of J.B. Mauney, a world champion bull rider, drinking at a bar alongside some friends. The clip will likely bring the song’s lyrics to life, telling the story of a tumultuous relationship.

According to the official music video’s YouTube description, Tyson Durfey (Cowboy), Shad Mayfield (Cowboy), Leighton Berry (Cowboy), Dale Brisby (Cowboy), Shea Fisher Durfey (Cowboy), Tanner Ursey (Bar Patron), Mike Ryan (Bar Patron), Casey Donahew (Bar Patron), Wade Bowen (Pool Shark), Melinda Donahew (Bartender), Ben Flanders, Alex Kidd, Rye Jackson, Howard Nunnelly, and Jeff Adamcyzk (Band), Maximilan McCoy (Young Luke), Ella Reese Milks (Young Ava), and Aggie Wranglers (Honkytonkers) will also make appearances in the music video.

Grimes told us that he first met Ella Langley at Jamey Johnson’s wedding “a long time ago” and noted that she could be a great fit for an acting role on the Marshals, which has recently been renewed for a second season after an impressive viewership for season one. Grimes leads the TV series as Kayce Dutton, reprising his role from Yellowstone.

“I met her a long time ago at Jamey Johnson’s wedding and she was talking about wanting to act,” he added. “I would love to have Ella… So I think if anybody… look talent is talent, I think. And if you can get up on a stage for an hour in front of a microphone and entertain people, I have a feeling you have a knack for being able to act a little bit too. So bring them all, man. I would love it. These are my people, so I’d love to have her on the show.”

“Choosin’ Texas” will appear on Langley’s forthcoming new album, Dandelion, which arrives on April 10 via SAWGOD Records/Columbia. Co-produced by Miranda Lambert and Ben West, the 18-track project will include her previously released songs “Choosin’ Texas,” “Dandelion,” “Be Her,” “Loving Life Again” and more.

Dandelion will serve as the follow-up to her debut album, hungover, and will mark Langley’s most personal album to date. “This record has so much growth in it,” Ella shared in a press release. “I’ve never poured more of myself into a project, into a song, into an idea, and it’s fallen out so beautifully. It’s about learning yourself, making mistakes, and realizing that it’s all just part of life.” Dandelion is available now for pre-order now.
