Paul Cauthen is gearing up to become a first-time dad, with a baby boy on the way. The 41-year-old country music singer from East Texas, along with his wife Elizabeth, shared the exciting news last year in a post on social media.

Now that the due date is getting closer, Cauthen can’t help but look forward to the arrival of his little one. In fact, he admits he’s experiencing a wave of emotions as the big day approaches. “I’m so excited. We’re both nervous. Like any first child for anybody, [he’s] on the way, May 12th,” he tells Music Mayhem, counting down the days to his baby boy’s arrival.

Despite the nerves, Cauthen says he’s ready to be on deck for anything his wife needs, especially during the postpartum period.

“Breathing. A lot of hee hee whos. That’s all I’m doing,” he shared. “You’re just helping her breathe, man. I’m just going to be there. I’m going to be there in the bullpen, waiting, whatever she needs of me. So that’s all I can do.”

As for advice, he says some of the best guidance has come from fellow country artists, including Billy Strings and Cody Jinks.

“I was talking to Billy Strings yesterday [March 23] and I was telling him, ‘Man, it’s tough looking at this through this lens now.’ And it’s kind of all sitting in on me lately,” he admitted. “Didn’t really settle for a minute. And he was like, ‘Everything will change in the best way once you put your hands on that boy.’ So, it was some of the best advice I’d heard.”

“So talking to Cody Jinks and a lot of my friends that have done it and been successful at being a parent and have screwed up at the same time, it’s not easy,” the baritone singer continued. “The biggest trouble is being absent. And so I’m going to try to provide in a way that I can spend time because every day is precious.”

Looking back on when he first found out he was going to be a father, Paul Cauthen said he was convinced the couple would be having a girl. That certainty quickly disappeared when they learned they were expecting a boy.

“I was just like, ‘Are you kidding me?’ I knew it was a girl. I was like, ‘Yeah, it’s definitely going to be a girl.’ And then, as a boy, I was shocked. So thankful though. It’s a blessing,” the Big Velvet said. “Children are a gift from God. So we’ve been praying about it for a very long time, and we’re just taking this next step, and it’s kind of chilled us out.”

“It’s kind of made me realize I got to really work and not screw this up because it’s easy to tear yourself down out there and get wound up in the rock and roll lifestyle, but now I’ve got more to live for,” he added.

Before getting pregnant, Cauthen revealed he and his wife had a difficult time conceiving. In his announcement on Instagram, shared jointly with Elizabeth and featuring “Lil Velvet” printed on a sweatshirt, they wrote, “@elizabethcauthen and I are beyond excited to announce a baby boy is on the way. Spring 2026!!! We have been trying for over four years now. It’s God’s timing, not ours. We are ready to bring Lil Velvet into this world. ⚡️⚡️⚡️”

Paul Cauthen is also gearing up to release his forthcoming new album, Book Of Paul, on April 3 via Thirty Tigers. “If you look at the Bible, there is no book of Paul,” Cauthen explained. “I just wanted to write something that embodies me, because I’m sick of hearing records catered to what’s hot and what’s working. Me, I’ve always been this country boy, East Texas guy. Roots, rock and roll, Texas gospel. If you look back at all my albums, I’m proud to say I meant everything I’ve said.”

The 13-track project will feature the buzzed-about “Texas Swagger” as well as duets with Delaney Ramsdell (“Chain Smoking”) and Jake Worthington (“Tossin’ Back Time”).
