Luke Combs is opening up about his “darkest days.”
Combs credited his wife Nicole and his fans as what got him through the tough times he experienced during a conversation in support of his latest album, Growin’ Up, with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe.
“You can be doing so well and so prolifically at whatever job that you are doing. And people are going, ‘wow, man, you are just absolutely crushing it.’ But inside you are just like a mess on the inside. And there’s something fulfilling for me…once you’re through that thing, once you’ve overcome your particular demon that is attacking you at the moment and you look back, the success is almost even sweeter,” Combs told Lowe.
“Because you’re like, that thing could have crushed me and just let me fall completely apart. It’s like you said, you would have every excuse to go, ‘couldn’t do it, man.’ And there are people out there that happens to and that’s okay too. That’s the thing that kept me going through my darkest days. I do still have this thing that’s here. And I get to go play these shows. The shows and my wife are the things that really have saved me, dude. Do you know what I mean?,” he continued.
Despite the demons he’s faced, Combs has continued to maintain a successful career in country music.
Combs is the reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year and was crowned the Country Music Artist of the Year at the 2022 iHeart Radio Music Awards. He also just released his third studio album, Growin’ Up on Jun. 24, unseating fellow country artist Morgan Wallen’s double album Dangerous from the No. 1 position atop the Billboard Top Country Albums chart.
The album features 12 tracks including, lead single “Doin’ This,” Miranda Lambert collaboration, “Outrunnin’ Your Memory,” and the steamy romance track, “The Kind Of Love We Make.”
In his personal life, Combs also has much to celebrate. He and wife Nicole just welcomed their first child, son Tex Lawrence Combs, on Father’s Day, Jun. 19.
Combs recently gave his fans a glimpse into new fatherhood, sharing beautiful black and white photos of he, Nicole, and son Tex on his Instagram page, writing, “This is what my days at home look like now.”
