Luke Combs revealed that he wants to conquer weight loss.

The “Love You Anyway” singer recently opened up (Mar. 21) about his struggles with being overweight on Joe Rogan’s podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience.

“Always Been Something I Struggled With

During his conversation with Rogan, Combs admitted he’s struggled with being overweight since childhood. The 33-year-old country singer and soon-to-be father of two also said he’ll experience regret if he doesn’t get his weight under control in his lifetime.

“I think my physical fitness, and my appearance, and my size has always been something that I struggled with, from the time I was a child,” Combs said. “And it’s this mountain that I’ve always been standing at the bottom of, trying to run up but then inherently slipping down every time, right?”

“And it’s this thing that I feel like if I don’t overcome it in my lifetime, it will be my biggest regret, without a doubt.”

He went on to admit that it’s something that is really a burden on him.

“It is a burden that weighs so heavily on me,” he continued. “And not because I care what other people think about me, about the way I look, about my size or any of that. It’s because what I feel like it means about me as a man.”

“Because there’s this thing that I wanna accomplish that is solely up to me, nobody else can do it for me, nobody did this to me. I want so badly to conquer that, and I will.”

Combs Says He’s “Excited For The Day” When He Reaches His Ideal Weight

Although Combs acknowledged the struggle around his desire to lose weight, he also told Rogan he’s “excited for the day” when he reaches his ideal size.

“And I’m excited for that day to come, because I know that will mean so much to me. I want it to mean something to my children…,” Combs shared. “I wanna be runnin’ around the yard with my children [and] I wanna take my son on an elk hunt when he’s 16 years old and hike up a mountain when I’m in my late 40s. [I] wanna do that with him. And I know right now I can’t do that with him, and that bugs the sh*t outta me,” he added.

Despite not being where he wants in his weight loss journey, Combs recognizes the beauty in the struggle.

When Rogan reminded him that his weight loss goals are attainable even if they don’t feel that way, the country singer agreed, noting, “I think there is beauty in that… that it is something that can be accomplished.”

Previously Opened Up About Wanting To “Trim Down”

Combs’ conversation with Rogan is not the first time he’s opened up about wanting to lose weight. Combs previously discussed the topic with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe back in June 2022.

“It was always something that’s bugged me… especially when you’re younger,” Combs said at the time, according to People.

“You’re like, ‘Man, I just got a horrible genetic dice roll on this thing.’ You start to realize that almost even more when you’re older and it’s like, not that I don’t pig out because I do pig out. I’m not trying to say it’s not my fault because it is in a lot of ways. But also, I got to this point where I’m like, ‘Man, I’d really love to trim down.’ And it’s so hard for me to do that.”

“I don’t need a cigarette to be alive. But I need food to be alive,” he continued. “It’s like, you would literally die without food. And so that’s what makes it such a difficult thing.”

Struggles With Mental Health & Suffers From OCD

In addition to opening up to Rogan about his struggles with being overweight, the North Carolina native also got candid on another important topic: mental health.

Combs explained that he suffers from purely obsessional OCD, a form of the condition characterized by unanswered questions that can never be answered and the associated ritual of trying to find the answer anyway.

Luke Combs said he experiences negative thought cycles that he can’t control, and the only solution is to “live with the uncertainty.”

New Album, Massive 2023 World Tour, And Baby No. 2 On The Way

His struggles aside, Combs is one of the most successful modern artists in country music.

He just released his fourth studio album, Gettin’ Old, and is currently performing on his massive world tour, which includes stops in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, Germany, and the U.K.
