Luke Combs is currently on break from his 2023 World Tour, which resumes on September 30 in Norway and sees the singer playing dates in Europe through October.

During a recent interview with Katie & Company‘s Katie Neal, Combs opened up about his current trek, sharing that “it’s been really busy, but a ton of fun at the same time” and “really, really enjoyable.

Pre-Show Ritual

Many artists have pre-show rituals before they hit the stage, and Combs is no different. He told Neal that on show days, usually tries to “take it easy,” working out in the morning and enjoying a nap in the afternoon.

“It’s kind of like I have to do those things,” he said. “Every now and again I play golf, but I only play nine holes. Not too much, especially in the summer, I’m trying not to be outside.” Joking that he sounds “super old,” Combs emphasized the importance of staying hydrated and how it affects his vocal cords.

“When you owe a show to 60,000 people, you have to be responsible to be able to go out and do the show,” he explained. “I spend a lot of time thinking about, ‘Is this decision going to affect the show tonight or tomorrow?’” Combs added that “especially” when he plays back to back shows on Friday and Saturday nights, “Friday after the show is the most critical.”

“Because you’re on such an adrenaline thing and you’re like, ‘I want to have some drinks with the boys and smoke a cigar and yell,’ and then you remember you got to play tomorrow too, so it’s like you can’t really do that stuff.”

When Neal wondered if it’s hard for him to fall asleep after his shows, Combs replied in the affirmative.

“It definitely is, right? You’re on a massive adrenaline spike. My show ends at 11,” he said, adding that he wears a WHOOP band fitness tracker while on stage and burns around 2,600 calories per show and his band averages “anywhere from four to five or six miles.”

Luke Combs Weight Loss

Also on the fitness front, Combs opened up to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 last year about his desire to lose weight.

“It was always something that’s bugged me… especially when you’re younger,” he said. “You’re like, ‘Man, I just got a horrible genetic dice roll on this thing.’ You start to realize that almost even more when you’re older and it’s like, not that I don’t pig out because I do pig out. I’m not trying to say it’s not my fault because it is in a lot of ways. But also, I got to this point where I’m like, man, I’d really love to trim down. And it’s so hard for me to do that.”

The 33-year-old explained that the “execution” of weight loss wasn’t the difficult part, but rather the “consistency.” He compared his relationship with food to a drug addiction, but noted that food is like a drug “that you have to live.”

“I don’t need a cigarette to be alive. But I need food to be alive,” he said. “It’s like, you would literally die without food. And so that’s what makes it such a difficult thing.”

Luke Combs and wife Nicole welcomed son Tex in June 2022 and son Beau in August of this year, and the singer told Lowe that the arrival of his first son made him think about how he wants his fitness to look later in life.

“This having a kid thing has really messed up my head on this thing in the best way,” he said. “I want to be around, dude. Do you know what I mean?”
