Justin Moore praised fellow country singer Granger Smith, labeling him as a “great human being,” according to a recent interview with his label, Big Machine Label Group.
Moore’s interview with his record label highlighted Moore’s Country On It Tour–which runs through Nov. 5–as well as the “With A Woman You Love” singer’s reason for wanting Smith to join him out on the road.
“We do share a lot of beliefs and similarities,” Moore said. “He’s just a great human being, and he’s an inspiring guy for myself. His story is really, although sad, an amazing one.”
Smith story’s that Moore referenced involved he and wife Amber’s son, River Kelly Smith, who died following a devastating drowning accident at their home at age three.
Despite doctors’ best attempts to save the child, he was “unable to be revived,” Smith wrote in a social media post where he revealed the accident. In addition, Smith shared that he and his wife donated their son’s organs so that other children would be given “a second chance at life.”
In a post following the tragic accident where Smith wished his wife a happy 10th wedding anniversary, he credited their faith as helping them navigate the grief they experienced over their son’s death.
“What I see: 2 people in a storm,” Smith wrote of the photo, which showed he and wife Amber sharing a kiss on their front lawn. “Hanging on to God for truth and guidance like a lone fence post in a ravaging wind. I see a girl hurting. Drawing on unimaginable strength just to continue on with necessary motherly duties. Clinging to the Bible like it’s a life raft hurdling through an unknown sea,” he continued, before noting that they were “still in love.”
Moore reacted to Smith and his wife’s commitment to their faith in the wake of their song’s death, calling their strength an “inspiration.”
“The way he and his wife have stayed so strong and grown even in their faith, I think is an inspiration to me and my wife,” Moore explained. “I love the fact that they are great parents. You know, it’s hard to be a Christian nowadays in this world, in particular in the entertainment industry, and I think he navigates that beautifully, and it’s something that I aspire to do better at.”
Since the loss of their son, the Smith’s welcomed another child, Maverick via IVF in August 2021. In addition to Maverick and their late son, River, the couple also shares a son, Lincoln and daughter, London.
Besides music, Smith also has a podcast where he discusses faith, relationships, his career, and more.
Meanwhile, Moore released an album of his greatest hits, available for purchase exclusively at Walmart, back in March of this year.
