Josh Turner released the story behind the song of his Randy Travis collaboration “Forever And Ever, Amen” on August 24.
The country singer released his album, Country State of Mind, earlier this month and on the record it features the legendary Randy Travis. The song featuring Travis is the first time that the country icon has been in the studio since suffering a stroke in 2013.
“This record wouldn’t be complete without a Randy Travis song because everybody knows that Randy was the reason that I moved to Nashville, he’s the one who kind of instilled this passion within me to step out on faith and chase this dream of being a country singer as a profession,” Turner explained. “This was the first time that Randy had been in the studio since the stroke which is pretty cool for me, i’m honored to have been the first one to ask him.”
Turner explained that even though there are a ton of Randy Travis songs out there, he knew that he had to choose “Forever And Ever, Amen” as he remembers being at shows where he finished out the song with the final word ‘Amen’ and knew that it moved so many live and said it just had to be recorded.
“There is a ton of Randy Travis songs I could put on here, but I couldn’t quit thinking about all the times since his stroke that there’s been an event or a show that somebody would come out and sing ‘Forever And Ever, Amen’ and he would sing the Amen at the very end. And how it just moved the crowd so much, so i’m like man if that’s moving people live. We’ve gotta get a recorded version of that. A picture is worth a thousand words. This one word is worth a thousand words.” Turner continued. “So, I’m honored to have my hero and my friend on here and I’m just very thankful for the influence he’s had on me.”
The pair performed the song live for the first time together on The Bobby Bones Show earlier this month and you can watch that HERE.
