Jelly Roll was performing a show in Virginia Beach, Virginia over the weekend when he noticed a fan who appeared to be having a medical issue.
The Tennessee native was in the middle of performing his chart-topping hit “NEED A FAVOR” at the Veterans United Home Loans Amphitheater when he halted his concert and asked his band to stop playing.
Halts Production Of Concert To Help Fan
“We got somebody down right here,” he said in videos captured by attendees, pointing out the fan and asking that they be given some water as the crowd expressed their appreciation for how he looked out for the concertgoer in need.
“I’ll stop the show for anybody to make sure they’re safe,” he said. “I don’t care what song I’m singing. I love you, I want you to feel better.”
“In fact, not only do I want you to get some water and feel better, I want you to get some water, feel better, come back and start drinking again,” he added to the fan before getting back to the show, which was the biggest of his career with a sold-out crowd of 22,000.
Shocked Chesterfield County Jail Inmates With Surprise Visit
Jelly Roll has long had a special bond with his fans and does what he can to help them whenever he’s able. Before Saturday’s show, he visited the Chesterfield County Jail in Virginia after inmates in the Helping Addicts Recover Progressively program made a video inviting him there.
Noting that he had been aware of the program and how it helped inmates before they even shouted him out on social media, the singer made sure to make time to visit the inmates, speaking with them and giving an acoustic performance as well as joining the inmates in a singalong.
“I’ve never been to a jail where the energy level was this high,” he said in a video documenting the day before sharing some advice that had once been imparted to him and made a major impact on his life — “Who you were is not who you are.”
He And His Wife Bunnie XO Recently Granted The Wish Of A Dying Fan
Last month, Jelly Roll, together with his wife, Bunnie XO, helped grant the wish of a dying fan, Nashville resident Suzanne Durham, a terminal cancer patient and former Nashville house manager for women recovering from drug and alcohol addiction who shared in a TikTok that meeting Jelly Roll and going to one of his concerts was her dying wish.
The James Bess Foundation, a nonprofit that grants last wishes to adults battling fatal illnesses, shared a video of Jelly Roll and Bunnie XO meeting Durham, with Jelly Roll performing some of his songs as well as covers of Alan Jackson and The Eagles for her.
Bunnie XO reflected on the emotional meeting in her own video, sharing that she and her husband wanted to help grant Durham’s wish as soon as they heard about her.
“When I tell you it was chicken soup for the soul and everything I needed in that moment, God really works in mysterious ways,” Bunnie said. “Just seeing this woman that has been given, I believe, five months to live, who has spent her entire life trying to help other people…that’s what life is all about. We never know when our last breath on earth is here.”
Jelly Roll is currently on his headlining Backroad Baptism Tour, which runs through October 14 with support from Ashley McBryde, Caitlynne Curtis, Chase Rice, Elle King, Merkules, Struggle Jennings, Three 6 Mafia and Yelawolf on select dates.
Additionally, the genre-bending star is also one of the most-nominated artists at the upcoming People’s Choice Country Awards, where he’s up for eight trophies.
