Jelly Roll shared a video that provided a “weight loss update,” in which his nutritionist revealed that he has shed 23 pounds within a two-week timeframe on the Backroad Baptism Tour.
The genre-bending artist took to social media on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 20) to share the clip, which featured his nutritionist, Ian Larios.
Lost 23 Pounds In Two Weeks
“Weight loss update and song writing in St Louis – for the 15th sold out show in a row on the Backroad Baptism tour — show 15/44 – let’s goooooo,” Jelly Roll captioned the clip, which also shows him surprising his wife, Bunnie XO, at her first-ever meet-and-greet.
In the video, Larios gave an update on the “NEED A FAVOR” singer’s weight loss journey.
“Another successful weigh in for Jelly, just past the two-week mark. So far on this tour, he has lost 23 pounds,” Larios said.
Focused On His Health Before Tour Kickoff
Prior to embarking on his 44-date Backroad Baptism Tour, the Antioch native took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to let fans know that he was focusing on his health to prepare for what has become his biggest headlining tour yet.
“Just know that I’m doing my part — I’m working out daily… praying and meditating …. Eating better — losing weight. Making sure I bring the best version of me on my new album and this tour… this what growth and gratitude look like in real time.”
“I Wanna Finally Conquer The Demon”
In December of 2022, Jelly Roll told Music Mayhem that he wanted to “finally conquer the demon” and prioritize losing weight in 2023 and it seems the hitmaker is living up to his promises.
“I’m going to spend the first couple months of the year just focusing on family and health,” Jelly Roll shared. “I lost some weight this year in 2022, but in 2023 I wanna finally conquer the demon. I don’t leave for a big tour until about the middle of the year. So I plan on taking the first half of the year to tighten the album up and get some work in.”
At the time, he also revealed that he has a new regimen in place to assist in shedding the pounds.
“I got a guy, man,” he continued. “I’m [about to] start working with my boy, who owns a gym in Brentwood, and we’re [gonna] start getting after it at the top of the year.”
Working Out With His Wife, Bunnie XO
In addition to working with a nutritionist and a personal trainer, Jelly Roll also works out with his wife, Bunnie XO.
“Workout partnaaa,” Bunnie XO captioned the clip.
Where Did The Name Jelly Roll Originate?
Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason DeFord, was given his nickname by his mother due to his “roundness” and large physique.
The singer/songwriter has been very open about his weight and revealed that he’s embraced the nickname throughout his life, jokingly mentioning that he’s spent years trying to “grow into the name,” a feat he believes he’s successfully achieved.
“NEED A FAVOR”
The father of two recently earned his second consecutive No. 1 at Country radio with “NEED A FAVOR.”
“NEED A FAVOR” appears on Jelly Roll’s debut full-length country record, WHITSITT CHAPEL, which arrived on June 2 via BMG/Stoney Creek Records. The project, named after the church the Antioch native grew up attending, features 13 tracks and debuted at the top of the Billboard Top Rock & Alternative Albums chart and at No. 2 on the Billboard Country Album chart.
“This album is about growth and gratitude happening in my life. I wanted to create a project that felt hopeful. I believe the worst feeling a person can have is feeling hopeless or worthless. This is therapeutic music. Real music for real people with real problems,” Jelly Roll previously shared in a statement.
WHITSITT CHAPEL also includes three collaborations. Brantley Gilbert and Struggle Jennings joined Jelly Roll on “Behind Bars” and Yelawolf is featured on “Unlive,” while Lainey Wilson teamed up with the 38-year-old hitmaker to recreate his fan-favorite tune, “Save Me.”
Jelly Roll is currently in the midst of his headlining Backroad Baptism Tour, which kicked off on July 28 with a sold out show at Bank Plus Amphitheater in Southaven, Mississippi.
Additionally, the massive headlining tour runs through Saturday, October 14, where the trek will wrap up in Tampa, Florida at MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre.
Hosted by Josh Adam Meyers, Jelly Roll’s Backroad Baptism Tour features support from Ashley McBryde, Caitlynne Curtis, Chase Rice, Elle King, Merkules, Struggle Jennings, Three 6 Mafia and Yelawolf on select dates.
In the midst of his headlining tour, Jelly Roll will also serve as support on several dates of Eric Church’s The Outsiders Revival Tour.
