Jelly Roll joked that he’s worried he and tour mate Brantley Gilbert will end up in jail while on the road together.
Jelly Roll shared these comments during a May 17 interview with Audacy’s Rob + Holly.
“I’m sure [Brantley Gilbert and I] are going to go to jail at some point together,” Jelly Roll told Rob + Holly. “Hopefully they have like a tour dad or something there, somebody responsible, because his band’s not responsible and my band is the absolute worst — they’re a bunch of losers… I am actually worried!,” he said.
In addition, Jelly Roll discussed being a “bad influence” and giving an F-bomb disclaimer at his shows.
“Everybody has one friend that’s a bad influence and I’m that friend! That’s my role in your life…to get you to fall off whatever high horse or wagon you’re on!,” he continued, adding that most fans don’t seem to have a problem with his language.
“Everybody’s just drunk and don’t care if they hear some F-bombs and I give a lot of them,” he explained. “I give the disclaimer before my show — there’s a disclaimer that’s sounded out before we go on. I promise you, I ain’t ever gonna do nothin’ that already hasn’t been done in this genre…. It’s like, if an f-bomb offends you, lady. Just calm down, Susan. It’s gonna be OK.”
Jelly Roll also recalled what it was like getting the invite from Gilbert to perform with him on tour when he stopped by The Bobby Bones Show.
“[Brantley] called me one night, which was, like, the craziest call ever,” Jelly Roll told Bones. “But I kept hearing around town, ‘hey man, you need to meet Brantley Gilbert, man. Y’all look like y’all get in trouble,’ and I love people I’ll get in trouble with. And everybody kept telling him, ‘hey, have you met Jelly Roll? Y’all should meet.’ And he finally, you know, I guess the word traveled, he called me, and said, ‘I want to do some shows next summer,’” Jelly Roll said of his conversation with the “Bottoms Up” singer.
Jelly Roll then shared a story about a conversation he and his wife had where he revealed that if Brantley Gilbert, Kid Rock, or Shinedown asked him to tour, he would immediately say yes. Coincidentally, in addition to touring with Gilbert, Jelly Roll will also hit the road with Shinedown starting in September.
Besides touring with Gilbert, Jelly Roll told Bones he’s working on a country album and has been writing with Gilbert and ERNEST “a lot.”
Jelly Roll & Brantley Gilbert Released A Brand-New Duet Together
The country stars recently joined forces for a rowdy new duet, “Son Of The Dirty South.”
Throughout the song, the pair trade verses before Gilbert sings lead on the track’s chorus, putting his signature raspy vocals on full display over the rockin’, guitar-driven instrumental.
“‘Cause I’m a Son Of The Dirty South / Got to trippin’ / Mama washin’ out my dirty mouth / and pickin’ switches / I’m a hell raisin’ rebel that you better never tread on / gun-totin’, drinkin’, smokin’ / hoss that you can bet on / tatted up / I’m gassed up / I’m throwed off and I’m buck wild / loud and rowdy / I’m a Son Of The Dirty South / loud and rowdy / I’m a Son Of The Dirty South,” Gilbert sings on the tune’s chorus.
This isn’t the first collaboration to come from Gilbert and Jelly Roll. The Georgia native recently told Music Mayhem that he and “Son Of A Sinner” singer have “a couple [of songs] in the works.”
“Son Of The Dirty South” and his latest single “Rolex On A Redneck (feat. Jason Aldean)” are both expected to appear Gilbert’s forthcoming, yet-to-be announced new album.
“We’ve been working on a record now for a couple of years and we’re ready to get it out,” Gilbert teased of the new project.
Jelly Roll joined Gilbert on the Son Of The Dirty South Tour this summer. The tour kicked off Jun. 30 in Jacksonville, Florida and concludes on Aug. 27 in Brandon, Mississippi.
