Jake Owen is mourning the loss of his bulldog, Merle, who he had for nearly 14 years.

The country superstar took to social media on Sunday (Feb. 26) to share a heartfelt tribute video, which was set to the tune of Merle Haggard’s 1980s song, “Natural High.”

“Weird time for me these days. Lost another best friend,” Owen captioned the clip. ”We shared almost 14 years together.”

While remembering his late pup, Owen reflected on some of the precious memories he shared with his furry friend.

”He went more places than most people ever will, and slept thru most of it. He was with me thru the best of the best and worst moments of my life. Love ya Merle. You were my dawg.”

The video featured clips from throughout Merle’s life and some special moments Owen shared with the dog.

Several of Jake Owen’s friends took to the comments of the post that honored his late dog to share their condolences with the “My Boots Miss Yours” singer, including Travis Denning, Bobby Bones, Walker Hayes and more.

“Sending love brotha ❤️,” Denning commented, while Bones wrote, “RIP Merle. May we hear your snore in bulldog heaven.”

“So sorry Jake, ❤️” Hayes added.

Jake Owen Recently Released A Brand-New Single

The news comes just about a month after Jake Owen released his new single “My Boots Miss Yours,” a tune co-written by Blake Bollinger, Brad Clawson, and Brett Sheroky and produced by Joey Moi.

“It’s a new year, so it’s only appropriate that we put out some new music to go with it,” Owen previously shared in a press release. ”I’ve loved this song from the moment I heard it; excited to finally share it with you today.”

The song finds Owen singing from the perspective of his cowboy boots, who are longing for another night with his new love interest, claiming “my boots miss yours.”

“My boots miss yours / From the heel down to the toe / It’s like they got a hole down in their soles / Never felt like this before / My boots miss yours / What ya say we get ’em back together / Make a little trail of clothes and leather / Let ’em hang out on the bedroom floor / My boots miss yours,” Owen sings on the chorus of the tune.

Last year, Jake Owen celebrated his tenth chart-topping hit with “Best Thing Since Backroads.”

Owen Is Preparing To Release A New Album

The country hitmaker has released several singles over the course of the last few months, including “My Boots Miss Yours,” “Up There Down Here” and “1×1,” all of which are expected to appear on his forthcoming, yet-to-be announced new album.

The upcoming project will follow Owen’s 2019’s Greetings From… Jake, an album that spawned hits such as “Down To The Honkytonk,” “I Was Jack (You Were Diane)” and “Made For You.”
