In honor of Blake Shelton’s final night on The Voice, his wife and fellow music sensation, Gwen Stefani, showed her support through a pre-recorded package that was aired during the season finale on Tuesday, May 23.
While she couldn’t be present for the show, Stefani still found a way to make the evening a memorable one for her other half who she originally met on the show, back in 2015 when they both served as coaches.
Recalling this important chapter through a series of throwback clips from their time on The Voice together, she shared, “Who would have thought that this Orange County girl and this country guy from Oklahoma would find each other on the set of The Voice.”
“When I first came on the show, our lives were having this parallel destruction happening,” she said, referring to their separate divorces that were taking place at the time. “And then next thing you know, Blake and I start becoming besties, and falling in love.”
The tearful tribute continued as the singer reflected on what it means to her “to find my soulmate, it’s hard for me to even talk about it without getting super emotional.”
With one finale note, she proudly stated, “The Voice is gonna go on, but Blake’s legacy will be there forever.”
When the cameras turned to Shelton, he was beaming with love and admiration for his wife’s kind words. Turning to host Carson Daly, he explained that they still can’t believe the path their love story has taken since finding each other on the singing competition show.
“At least once a week, we stop and go, ‘Can you believe that happened?’” he laughed before taking a more serious tone as he said, “It’s been the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me in my life.”
Later in the show, Gwen reappeared on the screen to unveil a very special gift that was delivered to her and Shelton’s Los Angeles home. This piece of memorabilia is something that the country star previously requested as his parting gift from the show. Once he saw the iconic red chair appear in his driveway, Shelton was stunned and even questioned whether or not that was real.
“Are you kidding me?” he asked Carson. “Oh my god I love that. I finally won something on this show for myself.”
Shelton previously told PEOPLE that the one thing he wanted to take away from this chapter in his life was his red chair that has given him the opportunity to uncover so many new artists over the years.
“I don’t know if they’re gonna offer that or not [and] I feel like they owe me a damn chair though,” he told the outlet. “I mean, who else can sit in my chair? It’s like the three bears — I don’t want anybody else sitting in my chair. I’m gonna try to get that away from them. Maybe I’ll have to buy it or something.”
The pair dated for five years before the “God’s Country” singer finally proposed in Oct. 2020. On July 3, 2021, they tied the knot in a small ceremony officiated by The Voice host, Carson Daly.
They currently split their time between their LA home and their Oklahoma ranch with Stefani’s sons Kingston, Zuma and Apollo (Their dad is Bush frontman Gavin Rossdale, Stefani’s ex-husband).
The two-hour season finale also featured performances from Maroon 5, Toosi, CeeLo Green, as well as Diplo featuring Lily Rose, and more.
In addition, Blake Shelton joined forces with NOIVAS and Grace West, while Kelly Clarkson took to The Voice stage with D. Smooth. Niall Horan performed alongside Gina Miles and Chance The Rapper harmonized with the trio, Sorelle.
The show also included special appearances from John Legend, Gwen Stefani, Camila Cabello, Jennifer Hudson, Nick Jonas, Usher, Pharrell Williams and Dolly Parton.
It was surely an emotional evening as the show marked Blake Shelton final show as a coach on The Voice.
The Voice aired on Tuesday (May 23) at 9/8c via NBC.
