Gabby Barrett defended her decision to block out her daughter’s face in photos.
The “Pick Me Up” singer, who performed her first show of 2022 on Monday evening (Jan. 17) at VMX in Orlando, Florida, recently shared a series of photos of her daughter, Baylah May Foehner, to celebrate her first birthday, and you may have noticed that Barrett covered her 1-year-old daughter’s face with an emoji as well as shared photos/videos of the back of her head rather than showing her face, which is decision the chart-topping hitmaker and her husband Cade Foehner made to protect her identity.
The first photo finds Barrett posing alongside her husband and lead guitarist, Foehner, and their daughter, Baylah May, in front of Cinderella’s Castle at Disney’s Magic Kingdom. While the other photos and videos in the series appear to have been taken throughout Baylah’s first year.
“Happy 1st birthday to my heart. My precious little girl. My daughter,” Barrett shared. “It’s not possible to explain in words the love a mother has for her child,” Barrett continued. “But being a parent, has made me appreciate my mother and father a whole lot more for what they did for my siblings and I. I will defend and protect you always. Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Mama & Dada love you. ”
After posting the photos to Instagram, fans commented, questioning her decision to hide Baylah’s face in photos on social media. On Tuesday evening (Jan. 18), the country superstar and 2021 CMT Artist Of The Year honoree took to her Instagram stories to let fans know why she blocks out her daughter’s face when posting about her publicly.
“For the people constantly commenting on Baylahs face being blocked out on pictures – She is our daughter,” Barrett, 22, said. “We will not purposefully take pictures without her in them, because we keep her face identity private.”
The Pennsylvania native continued to share that her and her husband, Foehner, are keeping their daughter safe from creepy people online and child predators.
“We’re protecting her from weird predators that lerk the internet in search for children,” Barrett continued. “Please respect how we’ve decided to protect our child.”
The American Idol alums announced Baylah May’s birth on social media one week after she arrived.
“Gotten to spend a very sweet week with our newest addition… Meet our girl,” Barrett wrote at the time.
Barrett and Foehner met on the set of American Idol in 2018. Their relationship continued to flourish after the show, and Foehner eventually popped the question in March 2019. The pair tied the knot six months later on October 5, 2019.
Less than one year after that, Barrett and Foehner announced that they were expecting their first child, and it sounds like Baylah May won’t be their last.
“We’re ready to add on to our family and get some babies in there,” the “I Hope” singer recently shared. “I definitely want to have more than one in the future, for sure.”
