Elle King took a break from her New Year’s Eve Live: Nashville’s Big Bash co-hosting duties on Sunday evening (Dec. 31) to perform a cover of “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around.” After being introduced by her famous father, comedian Rob Schneider, the 34-year-old singer/songwriter entered the stage donning a hot pink two-piece ensemble complete with silver stars for her impressive performance.
King, who fans deemed unrecognizable earlier in the evening, allowed her unique vocals to shine vibrantly as she belted out the lyrics to the iconic hit, recorded as a duet between Tom Petty (And The Heartbreakers) and Stevie Nicks, who also serves as the frontwoman of Fleetwood Mac. She traded vocals with her lead guitarist throughout the performance, before the pair flawlessly harmonized on the tune’s chorus and ending verses.
“So you’ve had a little trouble in town/ Now you’re keeping some demons down/ Stop draggin’ my, stop draggin’ my/ Stop draggin’ my heart around,” King sang on the tune’s chorus.
Elle King Takes Break From Hosting To Perform In Nashville
“Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” is the first single released from Stevie Nicks’ debut solo album, Bella Donna, which dropped in August 1981. The song was written by Tom Petty and Mike Campbell as a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers song, however, one of Nicks’ employees named Jimmy Lovine arranged for Nicks to sing the tune.
Later in the show, Elle King performed “Drunk (And I Don’t Wanna Go Home).”
