Super Bowl LVII is mere hours away, but companies are already unveiling their advertisements that will play during the big game’s highly coveted commercial spots.
One of those commercials is for Uber. The company’s paid subscription service, Uber One, has already seen success with its unique membership program, which offers perks, discounts, and exclusive invites when members consistently use it for ordering rides, food, and groceries.
But, despite Uber One’s success – one thing has been missing – a hit song.
Stressing that they aren’t in the market for a jingle, Uber One executives seek out the perfect candidate to assist them with developing a catchy song for Uber One’s new and improved next campaign in the latest Super Bowl ad for Uber One.
They turn to none other than rapper and notable music producer Diddy (Sean “Diddy” Combs). Diddy appears behind a giant desk wearing sunglasses as Uber One, which launched in November 2021, approaches him in their quest to find the best tune to help them get the word out about their brand.
“You want a hit?” Diddy asks with a grin before he calls on a cast of artists to help bring his next big song to life.
Montell Jordan, Kelis, Donna Lewis, Ylvis and Haddaway Appear In The Uber One Commercial
Montell Jordan, Kelis, Donna Lewis, Ylvis, and Haddaway all make an appearance in the one-minute commercial and bring some of the biggest hits of their respective careers to the table.
Jordan first offers his take on a song. Lewis, then, enters the recording booth at Love Records, reimagining her 1996 hit “I Love You Always Forever” from her Now In A Minute album.
“Uber One saves you forever / Rides and eats / Save on whatever,” she sings, receiving positive feedback from Diddy.
“Okay. Donna,” he says enthusiastically.
Next up is Kelis, who offers a remixed sample of her 2003 dance smash “Milkshake.”
“Your milkshakes cost way less than before,” she sings as Diddy listens in, while getting a buzz cut.
Norwegian duo Ylvis, then, takes the studio but doesn’t seem to impress Diddy with their high-pitched vocals. Luckily, Haddaway joins the booth and saves the day with a repurposed version of its 1993 dance track, “What Is Love (Baby Don’t Hurt Me).”
“Uber one / Uber one saves me / Saves me / Way more,” Haddaway sings while backed by a catchy beat.
“Diddy is excited,” Diddys’ spokesperson exclaims, afterward.
Diddy Also Promotes His Brands In The Game Day Ad Spot
Eagle-eyed viewers will also notice Combs’ getting an ad of his own in the Super Bowl commercial. The game day ad spot also introduces his new company name, Combs Global, and its logo. His R&B label, Love Records, is also featured in the commercial.
“As the only global company that helps you go anywhere and get anything, our membership program is the best way to save,” Global Executive Creative Director Danielle Hawley told USA Today of Uber’s decision to seek a song for its membership service. “We want people to remember that, so for this year’s Super Bowl ad, we set out to help everyone get Uber One stuck in their heads — and what better way to do that than with a hit song?”
Super Bowl LVII between Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles airs live on Sunday (Feb. 12) at 5:30 p.m. CT on FOX. Performers include Chris Stapleton, who will sing the national anthem, Babyface, who will perform “America the Beautiful,” and RIHANNA, who will deliver the halftime performance.
