Dan + Shay revealed that touring with Kenny Chesney is “unreal” during a recent (Jun. 16) conversation with Apple Music 1’s Zane Lowe.
The duo, composed of Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney, stopped by the show in support of their latest album Good Things, which was released via Warner Music Nashville back in August 2021.
During their conversation with Lowe, the subject of touring came up with Mooney sharing that serving as support on Chesney’s current Here And Now Tour is the “most fun [they’ve] ever had.”
“I think I can speak for both of us [that] this is the most fun that we’ve ever had touring,” Mooney shared during the conversation with Lowe. “I mean, we had obviously finished our headlining tour back in the fall, and that was incredible. But like you said, it was a big breath of fresh air because all the pressure is on you on your headlining tour, and we don’t have to worry about that. So, if nobody shows up, it’s Kenny’s fault. We didn’t do it.”
“But Dan and I are up there, he has a platform in the middle of the stadium right behind front of house, and Dan and I are up there every Saturday night, man, just cracking a cold beer and just having the time of our lives. It’s unreal,” he continued.
“This is the most chill summer ever,” Smyers added. “We’re on the road with Kenny on weekends, and then we’re home. We’re making new music during the weeks, and it’s fantastic. We’re such fans.”
In addition to sharing what it’s like to tour with Chesney, the pair also paid tribute to the “Everyone She Knows” singer with a brand-new song they wrote back in May.
The pair posted a video of their untitled tribute to Chesney via Instagram, explaining the “full circle moment” they experienced in going from being fans of the singer to playing Nissan Stadium with him in Nashville.
“Every time I hear that song / I’m right back there in that parking lot / Drinking discount beer with my best friends / We were drunk before we ever got in / Every word and every line I swear I’ve heard them a million times / And just like him, it stops me in my tracks / Singing I go back,” the pair sang on the chorus of the song.
Smyers also commented on the post from his personal account, writing, “drop a comment if you think we should record this,” adding an 🤠 emoji.
Dan + Shay are currently serving as support on Chesney’s Here And Now Tour alongside Old Dominion and Carly Pearce.
