Corey Ward returned to The Voice stage with a strong passion and determination to have at least one coach turn their chair and welcome him onto their team.

Last season, the 34-year-old auditioned with Kaleo’s “Way Down We Go” and unfortunately went without a chair turn from any of the coaches. That left him with the drive and determination to return this season with a vengeance, auditioning with Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own.”

His performance was so impressive that he earned him praise and a two chair turn from Kelly Clarkson and John Legend.

“Man, I love a passionate performer and you are that my friend,” Clarkson gushed. “I would love to be your coach.”

“Your performance, it made me really focus on the passion and the emotion,” Legend said. “It made me really feel it and it gave the song a whole new meaning to me. If we were to work together, I’m just gonna follow you heart and then just help guide you into being the best artist you can be.”

“I’m glad you came back,” Legend added.

After some banter from Nick Jonas and Blake Shelton, who didn’t turn their chairs for Ward, the contestant had to choose his coach. Ward then chose Kelly Clarkson as his coach.
