Brandon Davis released his official music video for his newest heartfelt Christmas tune “Family Tree.”
The touching video was filmed by his wife and displays a montage of Davis family Christmas memories, the song detailing his tight-knit bond with his children, wife and mother. Davis was inspired by his own family’s holiday traditions, and shared his personal recollections of Christmas in a Facebook video ahead of the song’s release.
“Growing up in my house with my parents, it always started with Thanksgiving as the kick-off to the Christmas season,” he told his fans, “So we’d get up early in the morning… Mama was up at five and six o’clock in the morning, sometimes earlier, cooking all kinds of food, in anticipation for all of the family to get there. We would come barreling in the living room, ready to watch the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, because that was the start of Thanksgiving for us.”
He added, “Once it was all said and done, it was Mama’s favorite time of the day, which was sending everybody out, to start grabbing all of our Christmas ornaments, and of course the Christmas tree. We’d bring it in, family would gather around. We’d be able to decorate everything together. You just start to look at all the stuff that goes on the tree, all the ornaments … there are ornaments on there my mom’s had since she was a kid. It’s just amazing to me how much life can be seen and tracked through a Christmas tree.”
The track dropped in November of 2022 with massive success to follow, hitting No.1 on the iTunes holiday charts not even a day after its release. There’s something comforting about diving into the country singer’s family traditions— a feeling of reassurance and ease after many grim and isolated years. Davis truly drives home the great importance of small customs, a concept that has brought families together for generations during the toughest of times.
The chorus sings, “Those boxes stuffed up in the loft dating back to 93’/ And once a year we’d pull em out and watch Macy’s playing on TV/ We’d dress it up with lights and life’s long memories/ With a star on top to praise the man who made it be/ And we’d thank Him for the years before and a couple more/ Around the family tree”
Davis shared the video-making process with Music Mayhem, “I really wanted to drive home the message of what Christmas truly meant to me and my family with this song and video. So when my wife, Destiny, broke out the camera when we began putting up our tree this year, I knew she would come up with the perfect video to accompany this song.”
Having his mother involved to teach her grandkids the same values that Davis learned as a kid was heart-warming for the Tennessee native.
“My mom always taught me that our Christmas tree was home to the true meaning of this holiday. It holds the three most important elements: Love, Family and God,” he added, “And having her here to put up the tree this year and teach my own kiddos all these same important elements was a moment I wanted to capture forever. I’m so honored to have not only my mom in this video but my beautiful wife behind the camera making it truly a family affair.”
Davis is already thinking ahead to future family traditions— he told Music Mayhem he plans to share the music video with his grandkids and great grandkids.
“There’s a line in the song that says ‘if the Good Lord called and granted me one wish, it’d be to live and see the day my great great grandkids find those boxes stuffed up in the loft dating back to ‘93’ but I have to say, I think seeing my great great grandkids watch this music video years from now and get to witness the memories we’re making today, that would be pretty incredible too.”
Last Christmas, Davis released “One More Christmas Eve,” a touching story about a young boy’s battle with cancer, his faith and wanting one more Christmas wish.
The “Step By Step” singer also put on a one-hour virtual concert earlier this month— per the request of his fans.
