Along with becoming a major name in country music, Jelly Roll has also been making an impact on the rock charts. That puts him in competition with major rock acts for top spots on the charts, though his presence is certainly not unwelcome.

Aaron Lewis Has Been Battling Jelly Roll For No. 1 Spot On Rock Charts

Take it from Staind’s Aaron Lewis, who recently appeared on the Rock Feed Podcast and shared that “for the last two or three weeks, I’ve been battling Jelly Roll on the rock charts for No. 1.”

When asked what he thinks of the rising star, Lewis replied, “I love Jelly. He’s awesome, we’re buds.”

Praises Jelly Roll’s Authenticity

Lewis also called Jelly Roll the “sweetest” and “nicest,” acknowledging that despite Jelly Roll’s past, “he don’t come off hard.” “He comes off sweet and genuine and he’s a good human being,” Lewis said. “He’s genuinely appreciative of what he’s got going on.”

When the host pointed out that Jelly Roll also “respects the people who came before him in this game,” Lewis said, “You know why? Because he came from nothing,” adding that he himself “came from nothing.”

“We lived in a trailer park,” he recalled. “My dad sold the trailer and we moved into a cabin that he bought on the side of a mountain for fifteen hundred dollars. That’s what we moved to. And when he was done with that cabin, he sold it for like eighty. And that was the leg up that we got. That was how we ended up out of a trailer park and into a middle class neighborhood.’

Lewis To Release Album With Staind, Jelly Roll Recently Shared WHITSITT CHAPEL

Staind is releasing their first new album in 12 years, Confessions of the Fallen, on September 22. Jelly Roll’s June album Whitsitt Chapel is currently at No. 5 on the Billboard Rock Albums chart, having gone to No. 1 after its release. Zach Bryan’s self-titled album is currently in the top spot, and Bryan also holds the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs chart with his Kacey Musgraves duet, “I Remember Everything.” Jelly Roll’s “Need A Favor,” which previously topped the chart, is at No. 2.

In June, “Need A Favor” became the first song ever to have hit the Top 10 of both the Country Airplay and Mainstream Rock Airplay charts, making Jelly Roll the first artist to achieve the feat.

“Rock Radio took a chance on me before anyone did and I’ll never forget that,” he wrote on social media after the song’s success at rock radio. “I promise to drop a proper Rock album soon. 3 weeks Billboard #1 on Rock Radio with ‘Need a Favor’ – thank you again all the stations that did this for me.”

Jelly Roll Teased Plans To Return To His Rock Roots

Speaking to Loudwire Nights, Jelly Roll revealed his plans for a rock album in the future, and he plans to execute the project via an idea he got from rapper Tech N9ne.

“I’m a huge fan of a guy named Tech N9ne,” he said. “This cool thing he used to do, where every like third album, he would drop an album called the Collabo and it would be 10 or 12 songs, like a real LP, but he would have a feature on every song. And I called Tech N9ne myself and said I’m not gonna call it Callabo, but I just want you to know, before you read about it through the media, I’m stealing the idea. And that’s how I’m going to do my rock record.”
