William Lee Golden and The Goldens are spreading warmth this holiday season and ushering in a new year with the video for their cover of “I Saw The Light.” The family-oriented group gives readers of Music Mayhem the first look at the cheery clip in this brand-new exclusive premiere.
Shot in black-and-white, this video welcomes folks in seeing how Golden and The Goldens unearthed the Hank Williams classic during their time in the studio. Collectively, they make the tune their own and a treasure for the rest of the world to hear.
Footage features Golden, a member of The Oak Ridge Boys, laying down his rich vocals over the microphone. The Goldens – consisting of two of his three sons Rusty Golden, Chris Golden, and bass singer Aaron McCune – meanwhile, add their talents into the mix by playing their respective instruments, which include piano, guitar, drums, and more.
“I saw the light, I saw the light / No more darkness, no more night / Now I’m so happy, no sorrow in sight / Praise the Lord, I saw the light,” Golden sings the ultra-familiar hook of the gospel/country classic with his signature vocals as the rest of the group blends their voices in beautiful family harmony.
“I Saw The Light” is one of several tracks from Golden and The Goldens three-volume set, Golden Classics. Old Country Church, Southern Accents, and Country Roads make up the collection of albums, and “I Saw The Light” can be found on the latter of the three. Per a press release, Golden Classics, which features contributions from Golden’s grandchildren Elizabeth, Rebekah, and Elijah, as well as Ben Isaacs, “contains over 30 songs spread across several genres that all have had an impact on the lives and careers of Golden and The Goldens.”
Opening up about Golden Classics, Golden and The Goldens, who recently made their Grand Ole Opry debut as a family, shared how the entire project became a labor of love that resulted in several video projects over its course.
“When we went into the studio, we recorded over 30 songs and then made videos for almost every single one of them. We are thankful to our fans who have been so supportive!” Golden and The Goldens tell Music Mayhem exclusively. “I Saw The Light” is not only a country standard but a gospel one, too. It has affected so many lives in countless ways and continues to do so. Thank you to Music Mayhem for premiering and I hope you enjoy it!”
Of Golden Classics, Golden shared in a statement, “When we went into the studio to record these songs, we couldn’t settle on just one album. There were simply too many to choose from, so we recorded three albums. We brought in cameras to capture the experience, and I am so glad that we did. This has been a wonderful experience to share with my sons, and I hope you are enjoying it as well!”
Golden and The Goldens’ video for “I Saw The Light” follows their recent music video releases for “If I Could Only Hear My Mother Pray Again,” “Bobby Sure,” “Old Country Church,” and “The Long And Winding Road.”
