Country hitmaker Kane Brown has idolized Country Music Hall of Famer Randy Travis all of his life and that has come full circle as he went from being his hero to becoming his friend.
In the midst of Brown’s headlining concert on Saturday (Aug. 20) at Choctaw Grand Theater in Oklahoma, the “Like I Love Country Music” singer surprised the crowd when he welcomed Travis to the stage to sit beside him while he sang a cover of Travis’ hit “Three Wooden Crosses.”

“Three Wooden Crosses” is a song written by Kim Williams and Doug Johnson, and recorded by Randy Travis. It was released in November 2002 from his album, Rise and Shine. The song became Travis’ 16th No. 1 single.
Brown previously brought out Randy Travis during a concert in Dallas on his Blessed And Free Tour in October 2021.

The Georgia/Tennessee native credits Travis as one of his biggest musical inspirations and he honored him with a heartfelt tribute during the 2021 CMT Artists Of The Year ceremony, where Travis received the highly-coveted Artist of a Lifetime title.
“Randy, I just want to say, you are such an influence, man, and I love you to death,” Brown said at the time before honoring Travis with a special tribute performance. “You’re still doing your thing and you’re giving these kids [such a] good role model, you’re the man, so thank you for letting me do this.”
Brown also previously told Entertainment Tonight that, “Randy was a huge help to my success, singing the songs, doing the covers — his songs, they have meaning to them. He’s a great storyteller.”
Kane Brown recently celebrated his eighth No. 1 hit at Country radio with “Like I Love Country Music,” a track that will appear on his forthcoming third studio album, Different Man.
Arriving on September 9, Different Man will feature 17 tracks, including “One Mississippi,” “Whiskey Sour,” “Leave You Alone,” “Go Around,” and “Grand.” The project also features duets with Blake Shelton and his wife Katelyn Brown.
Different Man follows Brown’s second studio album, 2018’s Experiment. In August of 2020, Brown released his ACM-nominated EP, Mixtape Vol. 1, which included several hit singles such as “Cool Again,” “Worldwide Beautiful” “Worship You” and his Top 40 radio single, “Be Like That” featuring Khalid and Swae Lee.
Brown will soon embark on a massive international tour, dubbed the Drunk or Dreaming Tour.
The trek will feature special guests Restless Road, Jessie James Decker, Blanco Brown and Chris Lane on select dates. Kicking off on September 17 in Melbourne, Australia, the tour will continue through Australia, New Zealand, Canada, UK, and Europe.
The Drunk or Dreaming Tour marks Brown’s first time touring in Australia and New Zealand, and his long-awaited return to Canada and Europe.
Additionally, Kane Brown will make history at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) as he becomes the first male country artist to ever perform on the popular awards show.
Brown previously made VMAs history when he was the only country artist to receive a 2021 nomination in the category of Video for Good for his single “Worldwide Beautiful.”
