Wade Bowen has teamed up with Country Music Hall of Famer Vince Gill on a new duet called, “A Guitar, A Singer and A Song.” In addition to releasing the song, Bowen has also shared its accompanying music video, which pays tribute to several of the Texas native’s musical friends and heroes that inspired his dream.

“The whole point of doing what we do is to not be forgotten, to try to leave a mark on the world with a guitar and with your songs and with your voice,” Bowen said of the song, which pays tribute to Dolly Parton, Vince Gill, Kris Kristofferson, Loretta Lynn, Don Williams, Guy Clark, The Judds, and more. “We don’t think about it until we get a couple of decades into our career: ‘Have I done enough that people will remember me?’”

“I love that this song got written because it seemed for a second there that it was not meant to be. When I brought the idea to Lori [McKenna], of course she’s the kind of person that was just like, ‘oh yeah, I see what you’re talking about there.’ I’m so thankful for her friendship that helped turned this idea into the right lyrics,” he added.

Gill expressed a similar sentiment about he and Bowen’s collaboration. “Wade is a great artist and this is a great singer, singing a great song,” he said. “That never goes out of style. I’m grateful to be a part of it.”

The music video for the song finds Bowen playing guitar in an open sun-lit field. Black and white photos of popular country artists including Parton, Loretta Lynn, Miranda Lambert, Keith Urban, and others are intercut with the performance shots.

A guitar won’t change the world / But there’s nights that I feel like it has / A singer can’t put lonely in a song / Until he’s felt lonely like that / Callused fingers / A poured out heart / And a dream much harder than you ever thought,” Bowen sings on the song’s first verse.

I don’t know why I do what I do / I just know that I’m in right or wrong / Somewhere in these chords lies the truth / For a guitar, a singer and a song,” Gill joins Bowen on the song’s chorus.

The song appears on Bowen’s latest release, Somewhere Between The Secret And The Truth, which features 12 tracks, including another duet between Bowen and Lori McKenna called “A Beautiful World.” Bowen co-wrote every track on the album alongside an impressive list of Nashville mainstays, like Lori McKenna, Heather Morgan, Eric Paslay, Randy Montana, and Ray Fulcher.

“I wanted to make sure we didn’t overthink these songs,” Bowen previously explained of the album. “There’s not a bunch of minor chords or eerie, intensity-driven stuff – even though I’ve always had a lot of pride in those moments in the past. This record is written simply and that’s on purpose, to have enough space to be big and for the band to go somewhere with it.”
