Christmas came early for a few lucky shoppers when country music star Gary LeVox made a surprise visit to a little grocery store chain in Lexington, Tenn.
Gary LeVox, the former frontman of Rascal Flatts, stopped by the community-run, and operated store Save-A-Lot on Monday (Oct. 17) afternoon to say ‘hello’ to workers and patrons, making their daily grocery store run.
Unbeknownst to them, LeVox was in the building waiting to meet with fans and get to know folks in the small-town community. Per usual in a small town, information often spreads quickly, and soon enough, the store was packed with eager fans hoping to catch a glimpse of the award-winning country star.
“I didn’t believe it at first, but then everybody started saying it. Then we started seeing it on Facebook, and so we thought, ‘Yeah. We’ll go up there and check it out.’” Sheena Wood, a shopper at the store, told WBBJ 7 Eyewitness News of the surprise appearance. “So, yeah. [I’m a] big fan of his music!”
She added, “Breathtaking. It was amazing, you know, because you never get this close to someone like that. And when you do, it’s a dream come true.”
According to the local news affiliate, LeVox was in the building for well over an hour to take photos and sign autographs.
A video posted to the Save-A-Lot Instagram page shows the excitement in action.
In this clip, which includes the caption, “Loved getting down like that with @garylevox in Lexington, TN,” LeVox can be seen hugging and shaking hands with fans. He also has fun with some of the kids, and even receives some artwork from one child who colored a Disney Toy Story photo for him from her coloring book.
LeVox shared the same video to his personal Instagram page, writing, “I got the chance to stop by a local @savealotfoodstoreson Monday and met so many of y’all. Y’all sure showed me how you #GetDownLikeThat in Lexington, TN! Who knows, I might be coming to one near you next 👀🙏.”
“It was pretty awesome. I’ve been a huge fan of Rascal Flatts for a really long time,” shopper Nicole Haldemad said of her experience with the powerhouse singer. “I have several of their albums, and never really got to see them in concert. So it’s really cool to be here today and get a picture with him.”
Along with meeting fans, LeVox was on hand to give back. He assisted the staff behind the counter by bagging groceries for people who were buying items and making their way out of the West Tennessee supermarket. And he handed out $50 gift cards to many shoppers.
“We are here blessing some people with some gift cards. We’re helping people out in these times and just saying ‘hi’ to the community. I just love Save-A-Lot because it’s all community owned with a small business owner,” LeVox shared.
To add to what was already a special day, LeVox donated a whopping $3,000 gift card to Lexington’s First United Methodist Church to continue showing his generosity.
“It’s just an awesome thing just to help them out and get food on the shelves in the community here,” LeVox said. “I love the fact that Save-A-Lot is in all the smaller communities. It’s awesome.”
LeVox, who is pursuing a solo career after Rascal Flatts disbanded in 2020, is currently promoting his latest single, “Get Down Like That,” and gearing up for a full tour in 2023. His next live show takes place at Addition Financial Arena on Nov. 5, in Orlando, FL, as part of the upcoming Celebrate Christ event.
