Carrie Underwood’s new NFL Sunday Night Football show opening made its debut and it does not disappoint!
The visually stunning clip premiered on Sunday (Sept. 11) leading into the first official Sunday Night Football matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Dallas Cowboys.
The 2022 Sunday Night Football show opening once again finds Underwood reprising “Waiting All Day For Sunday Night,” which is a play on Joan Jett’s 1988 hit, “I Hate Myself For Loving You.”
However, this year, for the first time ever, the clip showcases the game-day energy around each Sunday Night Football game as dedicated film crews will be on hand each week to capture the atmosphere leading up to kickoff. Scenes from tailgating, player arrivals, and the host city are seen throughout the video.
This marks Underwood’s 10th season performing the Sunday Night Football show opening.
“Performing the show open for Sunday Night Football for 10 years has been such a joy and privilege for me,” the superstar shared in a press statement. “It’s always a fun day when we shoot the new open — our amazing creative team somehow manages to top themselves year after year.”
“We are thrilled to mark a decade working with Carrie and are excited to introduce game-day scenes from the host city and stadium into the show open,” Tripp Dixon, creative director of the SNF show open for each of the past 10 years, added.

Ahead of the clip’s release, Underwood shared a behind-the-scenes look at the filming of the epic SNF show opener.
The video, which was filmed at Resorts World Theatre in Las Vegas, finds Underwood narrating over clips of the recording process of the show opener. Included in the sneak peek are live performance clips, interview segments, fan interactions, photoshoot b-roll, and more.
“We are at the Theatre at Resorts World in fabulous Las Vegas and we are shooting my tenth Sunday Night Football open,” Underwood shared. “They are always switching up the look and the feel of the open for fans to feel like they’re a part of it and get to be in it is really cool.”
The “Ghost Story” singer continued to praise the NFL’s Sunday Night Football opener, saying it’s “very exciting.”
“I feel like whenever you’re watching it, you feel like something big’s about to happen,” the Oklahoma native added. “I love being a part of Sunday Night Football.”

The preview video also showcased a look back at Underwood’s iconic show opens from years’ past.
“A lot has happened in the past ten years. So many memorable, incredible moments. Things just keep getting bigger and better. I can’t wait to see what’s gonna come next.”
Resorts World Theatre is the same venue that hosts Carrie Underwood’s electrifying Las Vegas Residency, which will make its return in 2023. Until then, fans can catch Underwood on her long-awaited Denim & Rhinestones Tour.
The 43-city trek kicks off on October 15 in Greenville, South Carolina, and will feature Jimmie Allen on all dates. The tour runs through March 17, 2023.
Tickets for the Denim & Rhinestones Tour are on sale now.
Underwood will donate $1 from each ticket sold to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation (t2t.org), which has been helping America’s heroes since 9/11 by providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children and by building custom-designed smart homes for catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. The Foundation is also committed to eradicating veteran homelessness and aiding the victims of major U.S. disasters.
The tour is in support of Carrie Underwood’s newest album, Denim & Rhinestones, which dropped in June. The album features her chart-climbing single, “Ghost Story,” as well as fan favorite tracks like “Pink Champagne,” “Crazy Angels,” and “Velvet Heartbreak.”
“We cover a lot of ground on this album,” Underwood previously shared in a press release. ”We have a lot of songs that have a bit of a ‘throwback’ feel, but they sound super fresh. I grew up listening to so many different kinds of music and that is extremely evident in this body of work.”
“These are musical influences that are all in me and work their way out, and I just decided this time not to get in their way,” the Oklahoma native added. “I think this whole album ended up being a big reflection of me as a person and as an artist.”
