Berritt Haynes, a 19-year-old Alabama native, who truly shined during his blind audition on NBC’s The Voice with a cover of a popular Brett Young tune on Tuesday (Sept. 28) evening.

The aspiring singer was originally granted a wish by the Make-A-Wish foundation to come watch the show from the live audience, however, due to the global health crisis that was unfortunately not possible. But that didn’t stop Haynes’ mom from sending in a video of her son, which earned him an audition on The Voice and spot on country superstar, Blake Shelton’s team.

Sporting a button-up shirt and a pair of jeans, Haynes got more than he wished for as he wowed Shelton with an impressive cover of Brett Young’s chart-topping single, “Mercy,” and earned a coveted spot on Team Blake Shelton.

“This is a dream come true to be here,” Haynes admitted to the coaches after performing a chart-topping country hit. “I was granted a make-a-wish, and I was granted a wish to come and see you guys.”

“Not only do I get to meet them now, I get to sing for them, and that’s a dream come true,” Haynes’ added. “I’m truly grateful to be alive and well and be here.”

Watch a clip of Berritt’s performance below.

“I heard your voice and I just think you’re a damn good singer,” Shelton gushed of Haynes’ stunning vocal abilities. “I’m damn proud to be your coach, man.”

While the televised show, unfortunately, did not air all the coaches’ commentary, it seems Kelly Clarkson, John Legend and Ariana Grande were also thoroughly impressed by his exceptional vocals.

Following the show, Shelton took to Twitter to share his excitement of adding Berritt to his team.

“To say it’s an honor to have you on Team Blake would be the understatement of the century!” Shelton tweeted. “Damn proud of you Berritt!”

At just 8-years-old Haynes was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, a disease he says is “often called the sudden death disease.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy “is a disease in which the heart muscle becomes abnormally thick (hypertrophied). The thickened heart muscle can make it harder for the heart to pump blood.”

The Voice airs every Monday & Tuesday on NBC at 8/7c.
