Walker Hayes made a major impact at Country radio with the release of his new single, “Good With Me.”
The song officially went to country radio on August 28 and earned a whopping 48 first-week adds on stations around the country. “Good With Me” earned the title of most-added at country radio this week.
Walker Hayes Reacted To The News
Hayes’ label Monument Records and SmackSongs took to social media to share his reaction to the tune being most-added via a video.
“‘Good With Me’ is the #1 most added song this week THANK YOU Country radio! 💪,” Monument Records captioned the clip on Instagram. In the clip, Hayes
“What!! Yeah, No. 1 most-added baby! Let’s go! Way to go team,” Hayes shouted.
The Grammy-nominated artist released the unifying tune on August 25. The song finds the Alabama native making the best out of life’s contradictions.
“I wrote this sitting on my dock after a long day of work,” Hayes explained of how the track came to be. “It felt like everyone I’d interacted with that day felt they needed to unload their opinions. I didn’t mind listening, but I noticed so much anger in their tone [and] I sat and thought for a while about how I know what everyone thinks except me. I thought of Laney and the song spilled out.”

Amidst a world consumed by disagreements, the track highlights how we’re losing sight of the things we actually agree on.
Throughout the tune, Hayes compiles the opinions of a variety of people in his life, highlighting how their viewpoints often clash on topics such as sports, sexual orientation, religion, politics, illness and even what constitutes as “real” country music.
“Well, Pam thinks Jesus is on his way/ Doug thinks she’s a hoot/ Rob thinks Bud Light makes you gay/ Shane thinks Rob is cute/ Coach thinks college athletes are making too much bank/ Kim thinks Covid was a Chinese prank/ Buddy thinks everything I sing sucks ‘cause it don’t sound like Hank/ Well baby I think,” the chart-topping superstar sings on the first chorus of the song.
“Good With Me” Unifies
The unifying anthem ultimately shifts from divisive subjects to what matters most, including the simple joys of life like fishing, relaxing by the lake, and treasured moments with loved ones, evoking Don Williams’ “I Believe In You” litany.
“Beer goes good with a lake/ And a lake goes good with a dock/ And a dock goes good with a fish on a hook/ And a hook goes good with a country song/ And a song goes good with a smile/ And a smile goes good with a kiss/ And a kiss goes good with you/ And baby you go good with me,” Hayes sings on the tune’s chorus.
Co-written by Walker Hayes alongside Shane McAnally and Scott Stepakoff, “Good With Me” showcases Hayes’ simplicity-driven approach to life. Whether he’s relishing a “Fancy Like” date night at Applebee’s with his wife Laney, staying on track in “AA,” or extending his Grinch yard display beyond Christmas, his goal is harmony, happiness, and perhaps a few more chuckles, especially from this song.
Explained The Reason Why He Released The Song
In an interview with The Tennessean, Walker Hayes further elaborated on the new song and why he hopes he won’t get “canceled” for some of the controversial topics he touched on in the tune.
“This song is a lighthearted look at the walls and doors we’ve erected around each other and how that’s harming our social condition,” he explained to the outlet. “I am a husband and country music songwriter with six kids and three dogs [and] I have enough occupations to fill my mental capacity each day adequately. I don’t think I can also absorb the news and have the ability to argue my opinions about that news on top of everything else I have going on in my life.”
Hayes continued to tell the outlet, “We all need to sit and take a moment to drink a beer and keep it real. Putting someone’s divisive, polarizing opinions ahead of their humanity can lead to us dangerously dehumanizing them. It’s important that − whether it’s beer, coffee, playing catch, religion, work, or something − we discover ways to re-create face-to-face relationships with each other.”
