Tim McGraw will no longer star in or executive produce an upcoming rodeo series on Netflix due to an upcoming surgery that requires extensive recovery time.

Tim McGraw Suddenly Exits Major Acting Role Due To Surgery

According to Deadline, a source close to the country music icon and 57-year-old actor revealed that he has to “undergo back surgery which would require recovery time” and because of that he is unable to commit to the Netflix series’ “physically demanding” role and taping schedule. With the upcoming back surgery, McGraw was forced to exit from his starring role on the show to allow taping to move forward with his part being recast.

The outlet also reported that McGraw’s role in the Untitled Netflix series was “physically demanding” and set in the intense world of bull riding at the rodeo. The series, produced by Skydance Television and McGraw’s Down Home Entertainment company, was expected to feature Mcgraw starring as “a megastar champion facing a life-or-death crossroads when confronted by the arrival of a fearless young rider whose existence challenges his ways and unearths secrets that force him to reckon with his past.”

The bull riding drama was created and written by Brandon Camp, who was also supposed to be the co-showrunner with Taylor Elmore.

Abruptly And Quietly Canceled Remaining 2024 Tour Dates For Knee Surgery

Last year, Tim McGraw abruptly and quietly canceled all of his remaining 2024 Standing Room Only tour dates after he had to undergo a last minute surgery that forced him off the road for the remainder of the year.

“In close consultation with his doctors, Tim McGraw will undergo necessary orthopedic surgery on both knees this month due to an injury sustained on tour. Unfortunately, this will prevent him from performing any shows for the remainder of this year,” announced one of the venues where McGraw was scheduled to perform in August of 2024, confirming the country star’s concert cancellation.

Tim McGraw started his acting career in 1997 with a guest appearance on The Jeff Foxworthy Show. The award-winning country singer continued to find success in acting, landing supporting roles in films like The Blind Side, Friday Night Lights, The Kingdom, Tomorrowland, Four Christmases, and The Shack. He also starred in lead roles in Flicka, Country Strong, and most-recently the Yellowstone prequel, 1883.

Only Four Live Performance On The Books in 2025

McGraw currently has no tour dates or live appearances on the books until later this year in August. The country star and husband of Faith Hill is only scheduled to deliver four live concerts this year, according to his official website.

Tim McGraw will return to the stage on August 30 for the first-ever, all-day concert event at the legendary Field of Dreams field in Dyersville, Iowa. The concert date, August 30th, coincides with the birthday of his late father, legendary MLB player Tug McGraw, making the show an especially meaningful one for Tim McGraw. Additionally, he will also perform at Thunder Ridge Nature’s Arena in Missouri, Y-Live @ Wean Park in Ohio and The Venue at Thunder Valley Casino Resort in California.
