Tim McGraw and Faith Hill married in October 1996, which means the couple is just under two months shy of their 27th wedding anniversary.
In a new interview with ET Canada, McGraw reflected on their marriage and how it remains strong amid the duo’s careers as country stars.
“I don’t know if there’s a key. We always say we’re 27 years coming up, it’s like 96 in show business,” McGraw said. “It’s almost like dog years.”

He added, “We just made a commitment early on, when we first decided we were getting married and having kids, that we wouldn’t just walk out the door when problems arose.”
McGraw and Hill share three daughters, Gracie, 26, Maggie, 25, and Audrey, 21, and McGraw shared that the family is willing to be “brutally honest” with each other no matter what.
“Faith and I were going to raise our girls to be strong, independent and fierce and have their own minds and have their own opinions,” McGraw said. “And sometimes I go, ‘Dang, do we want them to be that independent and strong?’ But yeah, we’re so proud of them.”

Tim McGraw Proposed Several Times Before Faith Hill Said “Yes”
McGraw and Hill met at a show in Nashville in 1994 and married two years later, though McGraw revealed in a video shared for the couple’s 25th anniversary that he had to propose multiple times.
“I actually asked her to marry me quite a few times, but she kept saying no,” he recalled. “She said, ‘I’m not gonna get involved with another country singer. It’s just not gonna work out,” he recalled.
His successful proposal came during an outdoor festival both stars were performing at that had trailers set up.
“I’m getting ready to go on stage and I had this sort of case that had this big mirror in it,” he shared. “She’s standing there and we’re talking, and I said, ‘Look, let’s get married.’ And she says, ‘You’re asking me to marry you at a country music festival in a trailer house?’ And I said, ‘Well, it’s pretty apropos if you think about it.’ She goes, ‘Are you serious?’ I said, ‘Well, yeah, I’m serious’ – and then they called me and I had to go to stage.”
“I went to stage and did the show and then I came off the stage and went back into my dressing room and Faith wasn’t there,” McGraw continued. “But I looked at the mirror – in lipstick it said, ‘Yes. I’m gonna be your wife.’ We still have that mirror, and it was the best day of my life, that’s for sure.”

Frequently Praise Each Other On Social Media
The couple often praise each other on social media, and McGraw recently called Hill “my rock” in an interview with Yahoo! Music. “She’s my rock in everything that I do,” he said. “I don’t think I could stand up straight without leaning on her in everything that I do.”
Now that all of their daughters have left home, McGraw joked that he and Hill are in their second honeymoon era.
“It was tough at first, like the first six months. I think it’s always harder on Mom when the girls go away,” he noted. “It was pretty tough because it was empty and the energy of the house was sort of gone. And then after about six months, we sort of thought, when we got married, we had a kid right away — we had Gracie right away. And now we kind of like have our time to ourselves and it’s kind of honeymoon time again. So, we’ve quite enjoyed it!”

Additionally, the beloved country couple will soon make an appearance on the 2023 ACM Honors, which was taped at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium and will air on Monday (Sept. 18) at 8/7c via FOX.
