Tim McGraw said he was brought to tears while working with his friend, actor Tom Hanks on the set of 1883, the prequel spin-off to Paramount’s mega-popular series, Yellowstone.
The “7500 OBO” hitmaker shared the comments on Tuesday (Jan. 18) in an interview with his record label, Big Machine Label Group.
McGraw, who portrays James Dutton in 1883, shared a scene with Hanks as General George Meade. According to Decider, the scene is a flashback to the 1862 Battle of Antietam.
McGraw described what it was it like working with Hanks.
“To me, it was one of the most moving scenes in the show,” said McGraw. “And it starts with an original picture from the battleground scene.”
“You find out that [my character James Dutton] was a Captain in the Civil War and I had a lot of PTSD from that,” McGraw continued. “No matter how good of friends you are and how well you know someone, when you’re sitting there in a scene that’s that emotional, and you see Tom Hanks walk up in a Union uniform, and look at you and say ‘Captain.’ And then he just sat beside me, and he puts his hand on my shoulder, and he goes, ‘I know.’ I just fell apart. That’s somebody that knows what they’re doin’. He was just really good.’”

McGraw and wife Faith Hill, who plays Margaret Dutton are long-time friends of Hanks and his wife, actress Rita Wilson.
Hanks wound up starring in 1883, after McGraw reached out to him, Entertainment Weekly reported. McGraw called Hanks and asked him if he’d been interested in making a cameo on the show, and Hanks responded, “Tell me when to be there.”
Hanks appeared as General Meade on the second episode of 1883.

Following Hanks’s cameo, the news broke that Wilson would also be making an appearance on the show. Wilson is set to play Carolyn, a storekeeper who works at Doan’s Crossing. Wilson will share a scene with Hill as Margaret Dutton.
Recently, McGraw posted a photo on his Instagram of he and his wife’s chairs on the set of 1883, to mark the end of filming season one of the popular series, 1883, for him and wife, Hill.
“One of the last nights on set,” McGraw captioned the photo. “Bittersweet,” he added alongside an #1883 hashtag.
Yellowstone follows the Dutton family on their Montana ranch, while its prequel, 1883 focuses on the family “before they founded their Montana cattle ranch.”
Yellowstone is tentatively set to return with its fifth season in the fall, however, a second season of 1883 has not yet been confirmed.
