When it comes to the holiday season, there’s no escaping sweet treats like candy canes and cookies, unless, of course, you’re Shay Mooney. The country singer has already trained his mind to stay fit and healthy. And, he doesn’t have to worry about a weight loss New Year’s resolution as he says, he’s already lost over 50 lbs.

The Dan + Shay member appeared on TODAY with Dan Smyers on Wednesday (Nov. 30) morning to talk about various topics like their recent award show wins, including their 2022 AMA for Favorite Country Duo/Group. They also discussed whether or not they will release a holiday album in the future and touched on Shay’s baby on the way, due in early 2023.

At one point, inside New York City’s Studio 1A location, co-host Craig Melvin pointed out the duo’s athletic-like build, saying, “You’ve always been very handsome, but it looks like you’ve both dropped like half of Dan and half of Shay…. You guys have dropped some serious weight. What are you doing?”

“I have. You know, I’ve got to stand next to this guy all the time,” Mooney, 30, said in response, pointing to his singing partner. “You know, I had this moment where I was just not feeling healthy. It wasn’t necessarily for my appearance, but it was to feel healthy. I’m down about 53 or 54 pounds.”

Shay Mooney Previously Revealed His 50 lb Weight Loss In October of 2022

This isn’t the first time Mooney has mentioned his weight loss and the motivation behind it.

He previously opened up about his slender appearance with EXTRA, saying, “It was in those moments where I needed to feel healthier. It was more about how I felt rather than about how I looked. I knew that all coincide whenever in the pursuit of health. It’s not just your body. It’s mind, body, and spirit. It correlates to all of it. So I wanted to be healthier. I’ve got two kids and a third on the way. I want to be healthy for them and make sure I’m around for a long time for them. So that was important.”

In October, Mooney also posted a photo of himself standing and posing with his son, Asher.

“Life gets better every day ❤️,” He captioned the photo, which drew attention due to Mooney’s noticeable weight loss.

Not long after, Mooney followed up with fans who had been asking about his dramatic drop in weight. He also thanked folks for supporting him throughout his journey to health and well-being.

“Thank you guys so much for all your kind words about me looking healthy. Really means a lot. Been a little over five months, I believe, and I’m down almost 50lbs,” Mooney wrote in an Instagram story at the time.

“For those asking: Eating clean/not drinking alcohol and walking 7 miles a day. And some weights. That’s it!” he added. “I completely changed my lifestyle, and I’ve literally never felt better physically, mentally, and spiritually. If you’re lookin’ for a sign… – Love y’all.”

During their TODAY Show stop, Dan + Shay also treated folks to live performances of their Christmas-themed songs, “Holiday Party” and “Take Me Home For Christmas.”
