Scotty McCreery almost had a duet with Garth Brooks!

Music Mayhem recently sat down to chat with McCreery, the “You Time” singer revealed that his dream collaboration with Garth Brooks was nearly a reality.

The North Carolina native continued to share that he and Brooks had a song that unfortunately didn’t happen last minute that was expected to appear on his previous album, Seasons Change. McCreery, however, is optimistic and hopes that the duet may come to fruition in the near future.

“I got close, we had one song we almost did together on my last record,” McCreery explained of his dream collaboration with Brooks. “He was loving the song, I was loving the song, and then it just, at the very last minute, didn’t quite work out, so you know, maybe we’ll find one together we can do in the near future, hopefully.”

After Music Mayhem agreed that the collaboration would’ve been epic. McCreery added, “Yeah, you have no idea. I was crossing my fingers, you know, praying on my lucky stars, but it just didn’t work out. Everything’s just gotta work out perfect, and at the last minute, it didn’t. So maybe it will one day, you know?”

McCreery credits Brooks’ music for playing a huge role in his life both as a person and an artist, as he grew up loving his music.

“He’s [Brooks is] just a guy that I’ve always liked. Like everybody, growing up loving his music, and his music played a huge role in my life as a person and an artist,” the country hitmaker gushed of Brooks.

Additionally, McCreery is readying his next full-length studio album, which is the follow-up to his 2018 project, Seasons Change. The country crooner spent a good portion of lockdown laying down tracks for the upcoming project, and says he is now in the process of whittling those tracks down from 23 to 11 or 12.

“I’m still kind of looking through the songs and just trying to get my theme together and seeing if there’s one that sticks out that kind of wraps it all together with a nice bow,” McCreery previously told Music Mayhem of the not-yet-released and currently untitled forthcoming project.

He also shared that the upcoming album will find him “going back to my roots, and I think most of, if not all, the songs were co-written by me, and they’re just songs that I believe in. I had a lot of time to sit back and reflect on life this past year, like we all did.”

Within the album, fans can expect to find the North Carolina native leaning into his country roots with storyteller lyrics that focus on topics of life, love, and the current state of the world coupled with the traditional sounds of fiddle and pedal steel. Fans have already gotten a taste of the new project with his latest single “You Time,” which is an uptempo song about taking some much-needed time off to spend it with the ones you love.

The singer will soon be hitting the road on his just-announced You Time tour and also will join Old Dominion as direct support on select Live from the Ballpark Tour dates. For a full list of tour dates and more visit scottymccreery.com.
