Sam Hunt is officially a dad!
On Tuesday evening (June 7), during the country superstar’s headlining performance at Star’s For Second Harvest, a charity concert benefitting the Second Harvest food bank, Hunt confirmed that his wife Hannah Lee Fowler gave birth to their first child, a baby girl.
“I recently had a baby girl named Lucy Lu,” Hunt said, surprising the crowd who erupted into cheers.
While it’s unclear when Lucy Lou made her arrival, Hunt told the audience that he and Lee Fowler welcomed her “a couple of weeks ago” and that she’s already had a profound impact on his life.
“I think being out here in the music business and being out on the road is sort of hard on my heart,” Hunt told the crowd. “My heart definitely a lot harder some days since I left that small town, but it’s amazing how that little girl melted that all away overnight a couple of weeks ago. I’ve been filled with a lot of gratitude these past couple of weeks and I just want to say up here on The Ryman stage how grateful I am to have been a part of Country music for the last ten years.”
#SamHunt revealed that he welcomed his first child with wife Hannah Lee Fowler a couple of weeks ago.
Hosted by Craig Wiseman, an acclaimed songwriter and the founder of Big Loud Records and Big Loud Shirt, the event also featured performances by Wiseman, ERNEST and Benny Burgess.
The “23” singer recently opened up about becoming a father in an interview with Lon Helton on Country Countdown USA in March.
“I haven’t talked about this, but I have a little girl on the way. I have a baby coming in about eight weeks,” Hunt previously shared. “I blocked out two months at the end of May and early June. Really this year revolves around that big news in my life.”
At the time, Hunt also revealed that he received some parenting advice from “Home Sweet” singer Russell Dickerson, who became a father himself in 2020.
“I saw Russell Dickerson a few weeks ago, we talked about fatherhood, I tried to pick his brain,” Hunt told Helton. ”Over the last 4-5 years, I’ve had a lot of buddies who’ve had their first kids. So I feel I’m ready for it.”
Earlier this year, Hannah Lee Fowler’s pregnancy was revealed in court records when she filed for divorce from Hunt, however, the couple later reconciled. In April 2022, Fowler reportedly requested the courts to dismiss the divorce case, and a judge signed off, according to new legal documents obtained by TMZ in May.
Sam Hunt and Hannah Lee Fowler first started dating in 2008 while the singer/songwriter was playing football for the University of Alabama. They eventually broke up but dated on and off for several years.
Fowler was the inspiration behind Hunt’s breakout album, Montevallo, which he named after her hometown.
Hunt tried to win Fowler back for several months and he was eventually successful.
“I think last summer I went out [to Hawaii] about seven times in about three months, trying to talk to her about coming back,” Sam revealed in a 2017 interview with Entertainment Tonight. “And the seventh trip I convinced her.”
Hunt and Fowler remained tight-lipped about their relationship, but after they began popping up on each other’s Instagram feeds, fans assumed they were back on.
They confirmed their engagement in January 2017 and eventually wed on April 15, 2017, in Hunt’s hometown of Cedartown, Georgia.
Additionally, Sam Hunt performed several unreleased tunes from his forthcoming new album, which will serve as a follow-up to 2020s Southside.
Hunt has tour dates planned through November. More information can be found on his website.
