Three years ago, Adam Lambert performed “Believe” by CHER at the 41st Annual Kennedy Center Honors.
Lambert performed a stripped down version of the 1998 hit that brought CHER to tears. Unlike the electric upbeat original version of the song, he transformed it into a heartfelt ballad.
The former American Idol contestant told Attitude Magazine that he was incredibly nervous before the performance but ironically, he performed the song on the eighth season of Idol.
CHER can be visibly be seen wiping tears from both eyes. After the ceremony, she took to Twitter to express her gratitude.
She said she was having trouble verbalizing how Lambert’s performance made her feel. Her senses were overwhelmed and she could only feel with her heart.
Rock legend Cyndi Lauper surprised CHER with a performance of “If I Could Turn Back Time.” Lauper had previously told CHER that shew as out of town. She and Lambert also performed a duet of “I Got You Babe.”
Lambert recently landed his fifth top 10 album (dated March 11) with his new covers project, High Drama. The album features renditions of Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out for a Hero,” Duran Duran’s “Ordinary World,” and Culture Club’s “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me.”
When he isn’t recording his own music, Lambert is fronting the legendary rock band QUEEN. Alongside Brian May and Roger Taylor, Queen announced The Rhapsody Tour, the first for Queen since 2019. The 14-show North American leg will run October 4 through November 11.
“Every time I get the call we’re going to do another [tour], Whoo! I get excited!,” Lambert enthused. “Our audiences are unbelievable. They keep getting younger, with multi generations at the show, which is amazing.”
Lambert’s tenure with Queen began nearly 10 years ago. This coming tour will feature a 150-minute set loaded with hits like “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Somebody to Love” to deep cuts like “Don’t Stop Me Now” and “These Are the Days of our Lives.”
CHER recently made headlines alongside beau Alexander Edwards as they made their red carpet debut at the Versace fall 2023 fashion show at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles in early March.
The 76-year-old and 37-year-old music producer looked happy as they posed for photos.
As a guest on The Kelly Clarkson Show in December she said, “On paper, it’s kind of ridiculous, but in real life, we get along great.”
Alexander revealed earlier this year that he and CHER have already met each other’s children and are working on music together.
She told E! News that she is going to England to make two albums. “Some of the songs Alexander gave me, so I’m pretty excited about that. He’s a producer and a writer and he does everything, so I’m happy about that. I think like any artist, when you’ve got something good, you’re excited.”
In addition to record her own music, she is appearing on Dolly Parton’s forthcoming album, Rock Star, alongside Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks and Steven Tyler. The new record will include covers of classic rock songs by Prince, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
