Reba McEntire told a hilarious story about buying Beano at the grocery store back in October 2021 on an episode of country radio show host Bobby Bones’ podcast, Bobbycast.
McEntire shared the story when Bones asked her if she’s able to go grocery shopping without being recognized.
“Do you ever just go in a Starbucks and get a coffee?” Bones asked McEntire.
“Yeah,” McEntire responded, before adding she goes grocery shopping, too. McEntire went on to say that she likes going to the grocery store on Wednesdays and Thursdays because that’s when the staff re-stocks the shelves.
“Do you feel like people for the most part are just cool and will let you grocery shop?” Bones said.
“Yeah,” McEntire replied, leading into the hilarious story about the time she bought Beano.
“I gotta tell you about a funny story that happened the other day,” McEntire continued. “I was checking out, and the grocery sack girl was sitting there and she was going through all the stuff and she was narrating and commenting on everything that I had bought and she picks up a bottle of Beano. She said, ‘is this for you?’ I said, ‘yeah it is.’ She said, ‘well, does it work?’ And everybody in line, I looked at everybody and said, ‘it works,’” she laughed, flashing a thumbs up sign. “Great advertisement right here, just throw it in the bag if you would,” she joked.
McEntire also revealed that people often don’t recognize her when she’s out and about in public until she talks.
“I will stop and ask other people shopping, ‘[do] you have any idea where so-and-so is?’ and they’ll go, ‘it’s…are you Reba McEntire?,’” she explained, adding that they’ll ask her if she’s really out shopping.
“You know where the baking soda is?,” McEntire said, citing another example of when she interacts with fellow patrons at the grocery store. “And they’ll say, ‘yeah, it’s right down that aisle,’ and ‘[I’ll say], okay, thanks.’”
Aside from her solo trips to the grocery store, McEntire is busy with her music career. McEntire just announced she’ll be embarking on a 17-date arena tour featuring Terri Clark as support on Oct. 13 in Lafayette, Louisiana.
Tickets for the Reba: Live in Concert Tour will go on sale Friday (Jul. 15).
