Alabama frontman Randy Owen is mourning the loss of his mother, Martha Alice Teague Owen, who passed away on Thursday morning (June 2) in Fort Payne, Alabama.

She died following a short illness and was surrounded by her family during her final moments. Martha Alice was 90 years old.

According to a press release, Martha Alice was married to Gladstone Yeuell Owen (Randy’s late father who passed in 1980). They were parents to Randy and daughters Reba Patterson and Rachel Carroll.

Randy credits his parents for his love of music as they were the ones responsible for introducing him to music and live performing at a young age. When the children were adolescents, the family formed a Gospel group called The Singing Owen Family and traveled around the state of Alabama performing at churches and various events in the ‘60s and ‘70s.

The Rainsville Community Church in Rainsville, Alabama will host Owen’s visitation on Sunday, June 5 (4-8 p.m. / CT), as well as funeral services on Monday, June 6 (time TBA).

Members of the Owen family are asking for privacy during this time.

To allow time for Randy Owen to be with his family, Alabama’s upcoming concerts have been rescheduled.

The Roanoke, Virginia originally scheduled for June will now take place on December 9. The Fayetteville, North Carolina concert, originally planned for June 4, is now scheduled for December 11. All previously purchased tickets will be honored at the new dates.
