RaeLynn is gearing up to release her new album, Funny Girl, and she shares that the project will showcase a more mature side of her that fans have not yet heard.

The former The Voice alum and two-time ACM New Female Vocalist nominee recently chatted with Music Mayhem, where she discussed her forthcoming highly-anticipated release.

New Album, Funny Girl

During the conversation, RaeLynn shared that some of the songs on the upcoming project were inspired by her role as a proud mother of her daughter, Daisy, who will turn two years old in September, and a loving wife of husband and military spouse Josh Davis, whom she married on February 27, 2016.

“There’s a lot of growness to this project. It’s a grown side that nobody has seen of me before,” RaeLynn shares. “I’ve been married for eight years. I’m a mom and a person continuing to change my dreams and stuff like that, so all of that maturity is in this project.”

“What’s Wrong With That”

In May of 2023, RaeLynn released “What’s Wrong With That,” an uptempo song she wrote based on personal experience about her happy marriage to Davis. In the song, she reveals that she is more than capable of changing a tire, opening her door, and paying the tab, but when it comes to finding the perfect man to assist with those tasks, she asks, what’s wrong with that?

What’s wrong with letting a man do those things for you? / What’s wrong if I let a big strong cowboy do what he’s made to do? / What’s wrong if I let him treat me like a lady if he wants to? / What’s wrong with a six foot two little front porch view of him mowin’ my grass? / It’s old school so I’m told, but I just want to know, what’s wrong with that?” She sings.

“Broken One”

Two months prior, RaeLynn debuted her emotional single called “Broken One,” which she co-penned alongside Justin Morgan and Jason Duke. The tune, which serves as the second single released off her upcoming album, is the second part of “Love Triangle” off her album, Wildhorse.

RaeLynn released a heartfelt accompanying video to “Broken One,” which paints the picture of her life as a kid growing up with divorced parents. The clip stars her husband and in-laws as she sings about the differences in how she and Davis were raised.

Represents Growth As A Woman And Reminds Her Of Everything She’s Accomplished

Another reflective track on the album is the not-yet-released title track, which RaeLynn says she’s proud of writing as it represents her growth as a woman and reminds her of everything she’s accomplished throughout her life thus far.

“I love the title track ‘Funny Girl’ because growing up, I had that title as ‘the funny girl’ and I wasn’t the prom queen or the homecoming queen, I was the girl that made everybody laugh,” RaeLynn explains. “I think in some ways there’s a loneliness to that, but If I could go back and tell that girl, ‘Hey. Look at all of these beautiful things you’re going to accomplish, and the man that you’re going to marry and the life that you’re going to live, I mean, I would have not been upset one day as a kid. So I’m proud of that song and what it represents. I think a lot of girls have felt that way. I know I did, so I am excited to see how that takes off.”

Aside from reflective songs and tracks relating to the most important people in her life, RaeLynn shares that the album will include fun-loving, good-time tunes that everyone can relate to.

“I love to have a good time [and] I love to have a few drinks [and] I love country music and the fun that can be had with it. So it’s a big mix of all of that,” she shares. “….This record, one thing about being an artist is you’re always writing songs and getting new favorites. So, I think, this Funny Girl project is ever-changing because I’m always writing. But, a lot of this is I never say my heart because my heart is in every lyric and every song that I write, but I will say that.”

No Release Date Set Yet

At this point, RaeLynn says there is no release date set for Funny Girl, but she hopes “fans take away that there is somebody in country music who is doing the day-to-day what they’re doing.”

“I think I value where I’m at right now with music, my relationships, my marriage, and all of those things, and I advocate for that with my fans,” she adds. “One thing in country music is you’re always going to get what you see, and I feel like with this next project. I hope that they see that.”
