Post Malone released his first country album, F-1 Trillion, last year, making waves in the genre and spawning two successful tours and hits like “I Had Some Help” with Morgan Wallen and “Pour Me A Drink” with Blake Shelton. According to Post Malone, whose real name is Austin Post, that won’t be his only foray into country music, with the star currently working on his second country project.

Post Malone Has A Second Country Album On The Way

Much of that work is in Nashville, which Malone called “such a legendary place” while speaking with The Tennessean. “The people, the countless number of amazing artists, the venues, the studios — it’s all such a perfect storm of musical history and inspiration that’s perfect for songwriting,” he said. “I absolutely love it.”

Guitarist Derek Wells, who plays in Malone’s backing band on tour, revealed that Malone’s next album will harken even further back into country music, drawing inspiration from ’80s icons like George Jones and George Strait compared to F-1 Trillion influences like Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Blake Shelton and Chris Stapleton.

“There’s also more fiddle, pedal steel, guitar solos,” Wells said. “Where we started as two feet over the line into traditional country on F-1 Trillion has turned into head, chest, shoulders and feet across the line on where we’re headed with the next batch of songs.”

“Honored” To Be Accepted Into Country Music Community

Malone has long been open about his love of country music, and he’s now able to share that on stage every night. Currently, in the middle of his Post Malone Presents: The BIG ASS Stadium Tour, the Texas native praised the other musicians on stage with him, sharing, “Working with these players has been so unbelievable, they’re just absolute legends, It’s incredible enough when we’re in the studio, but taking the show out on the road and performing with some of them makes every show that much more epic.”

Wells added that “Post’s love of country was already huge, but doubling down by getting to perform it with the band behind him is making it grow.” He also pointed out that Malone, who was already one of the biggest artists in the world before his foray into country, “offers Nashville’s country industry incredible visibility that raises the stakes for what we can accomplish.”

For his part, Malone is fully appreciative of the way he’s been accepted into the country music community. “I want to make sure I do things with respect,” he shared. “I feel honored that everyone has been accepting and patient with me.”

Has 35+ Songs Complete

As far as his new album goes, the 29-year-old told Billboard in April that he has already “made probably 35 songs; it’s just a matter of which ones rock, and which ones sock.” The project will follow the successful F-1 Trillion, which Malone called “so fun to make.”

“I said in an interview a while ago, ‘When I’m 30 years old, I’m gonna make a country record.’ And I made it at 29, so I wasn’t too far off,” he said before reflecting on his decision to finally go all-in on country music. “But you know, it just happened naturally. I was like, ‘F— it, let’s go to Nashville. Let’s give it a go.’ I think finally bringing the fun back into what I was doing really showed on the record. And I think a lot of folks had fun listening to it. And we’re going to attempt to do it again. I’m excited to keep going.”
