Morgan Wallen continues to make history with “Last Night,” a fan-favorite tune from his latest album, One Thing At A Time.
“Last Night” is now the first song in history to amass 1 billion on-demand audio streams in the United States in a single calendar year, so far.
The song, which was co-written by John Byron, Ashley Gorley, Jacob Kasher Hindlin and Ryan Vojtesak, currently sits at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart for its 13th non-consecutive week, marking the longest running No. 1 on the Hot 100 chart this year.
Longest Running No. 1 Hit On The Billboard Hot 100 In 2023
“Last Night” joins just 14 other songs that have led the Hot 100 chart for at least 13 weeks.
Having charted on the Billboard Hot 100 for a remarkable 22 weeks, the song has held the coveted No. 1 position for an impressive 13 weeks.
“Last Night” continues to dominate the charts, claiming the top spot on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart for an astounding 22 weeks. This achievement ties it for the sixth-longest reign since the chart transitioned into an all-encompassing representation of the genre in 1958. The record for the longest-running No. 1 on the chart is held by Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line’s “Meant To Be,” which spent an unprecedented 50 weeks in the top position from 2017 to 2018.
“Last Night” Surpassed Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers”
According to Chart Data, the song’ has also become “the No. 1 best-selling song of the year by US units, surpassing Miley Cyrus’ ‘Flowers.’”
“Last Night” was an instant hit upon the release of Wallen’s latest album. The track details an alcohol-induced argument between a couple.
“I know that last night we let the liquor talk / I can’t remember everything we said but we said it all / You told me that you wish I was somebody you never met / But baby, baby somethin’s tellin’ me this ain’t over yet / No way it was our last night / No way it was our last night,” Wallen sings on the chorus.
One Record At A Time Sessions
Morgan Wallen launched his infamous acoustic series, dubbed One Record At A Time Sessions, with a stripped down performance of “Last Night” in February of 2023.
Directed by Justin Clough and filmed at Skyway Studios, the clip features Wallen delivering a laid back performance of the fan-favorite hit. The video finds Wallen performing the tune alongside his touring band in a rehearsal space as they prepared for the One Night At A Time World Tour.
One Thing At A Time Sits At No. 1 On Billboard 200 For 15th Week
“Last Night” appears on Wallen’s new album, One Thing At A Time, which arrived on March 3 and claims a 15th week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.
Over the course of 11 weeks, both the album and its lead single have reigned supreme on their respective charts – the Billboard 200 and Hot 100. This impressive feat places the album among an elite group of records that have topped the Billboard 200 for a minimum of 11 weeks while simultaneously having one or more of its songs dominate the Hot 100. Notably, Morgan Wallen now surpasses Michael Jackson, whose album Thriller achieved a similar milestone with two of its hits, making Wallen the solo male artist with the greatest chart double-up in history.
Wallen’s success doesn’t stop there. According to Vulture, his album One Thing At A Time has claimed the record for the most weeks at No. 1 on the country album chart in over three decades.
The Project Features 36 Tracks
One Thing At A Time showcases Wallen’s wide range of musical influences as well as combine his love for country, rock and hip-hop.
The project features 36 tracks, including duets with Eric Church, HARDY and ERNEST. Wallen’s sister Ashlyne also makes an appearance on the project, singing harmonies on the song titled “Outlook.” He also pays tribute to his son, Indigo (Indie) Wilder Wallen, on the project with the tune “Dying Man,” which he often dedicates to Indie during his live concerts.
“This record represents the last few years of my life, the highs and the lows,” Wallen previously shared in a statement. “It also brings together the musical influences that have shaped me as an artist – country, alternative and hip-hop.”
Wallen is currently in the midst of the U.S. leg of his record-breaking One Night At A Time World Tour, which kicked off with two sold-out shows at American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in April.
One Night At A Time World Tour
The One Night At A Time World Tour marks Wallen’s first-time ever headlining stadiums across the globe for multiple nights. The trek marks one of the largest tours of 2023 and will visit stadiums, arenas, amphitheaters, and festivals across four countries and two continents.
The U.S. leg of the tour began on April 14 with back-to-back nights at Milwaukee’s American Family Field. Produced by Live Nation, Wallen’s 63-show trek will feature support from ERNEST and Bailey Zimmerman on all dates. HARDY and Parker McCollum will also appear on select dates.
In an effort to give back to those in need, Wallen will donate $3 of every ticket sold on the U.S. dates to The Morgan Wallen Foundation. Established in 2021, the foundation benefits causes near and dear to the superstar’s heart, including organizations such as Greater Good Music, Children Are People, the Salvation Army, and the National Museum of African American Music.
