Morgan Wallen knows a thing or two about seeing success in country music, and he made sure to praise another artist who is currently doing the same – Jelly Roll. Speaking to Audacy’s Katie Neal on Superstar Power Hour, Wallen discussed his fellow musician, sharing that he’s “really proud” of Jelly Roll.
Wallen Says Jelly Roll’s Success Is “Very Well Deserved”
“I think the success and the exposure that he’s getting is very well deserved,” the “Last Night” singer added.
Wallen also praised Jelly Roll’s spirit of giving back. “I went into [Wallen’s record label] Big Loud one day and I was going to record and Jelly was in the lobby on the phone,” he recalled. “It was taking a while, I was trying to wait around to say ‘What’s up’ and it was taking too long. He was like ‘Hold on,’ he got off and I kind of heard what he was doing, he was buying all the kids at juvenile some pizza.”
“I think he grew up in a hard way where he spent time there, and looking out for kids who are kind of like him,” Wallen continued. “That’s just how he is.”
How Did Morgan Wallen Meet Jelly Roll?
Wallen told Neal that he and Jelly Roll became friends through ERNEST, who has known Jelly Roll for “a long time,” according to Wallen.
“Me and Ern are obviously tight, so me and Jelly and Ern went and played golf a couple times,” Wallen shared. “I’d be in the studio, Jelly would be in there, going to write with whoever at Big Loud and we’d meet in passing and we kind of just stayed in touch.”
“I think he’s super talented, obviously,” he continued. “I’m a big fan of his music, I’m a big fan of him.”

The “Need A Favor” Singer Also Praised Morgan Wallen
Jelly Roll returned the praise to Wallen while speaking with Lon Helton on Country Countdown USA.
“Unbelievable to hear that coming from my friend, but also, we’re talking about one of the top three biggest artists in the world,” he told Helton. “Let’s talk about the power of what Morgan Wallen has done and how cool he’s made country music, period.”
“I say the joke all the time, any time Morgan Wallen texts me, I feel like it’s coming from a President,” Jelly Roll continued. “That dude’s so busy, when he takes the time, and he does it so much. Unsolicited. He’s the kind of guy that will just hit me and go, ‘Hey, I just want to check on you, bub. I know where you’re at, man. I know how crazy it gets. You need somebody to talk to, holler at me.’ He’s that guy. And I’ve met everybody in country music, and there’s only a few of them that are that guy. He is one of the good dudes.”

Jelly Roll Will Join Morgan Wallen For Select Tour Dates In 2024
The genre-bending star will join Wallen on select dates of the latter’s One Night At A Time Tour next year and is scheduled to open for the “Whiskey Glasses” star for two dates in July in Tampa, FL, one show in Arlington, TX on July 25 and a Las Vegas stop on August 8.
The two friends will likely get to spend some time together at this week’s CMA Awards, where they’re both up for multiple trophies. Wallen has three nods, including Entertainer of the Year, while first-time nominee Jelly Roll has five nominations, the second-highest number this year. Jelly Roll is up for both New Artist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year, a major feat in his first year on the ballot.
