Morgan Wallen was known for his signature mullet for years, but the singer shocked fans over the summer when he debuted a shaved head during one of the stops on his One Night at a Time World Tour. During a new interview during Superstar Power Hour with Audacy’s Katie Neal, Wallen opened up about his decision, revealing that it had been a long time coming.

Why Did Morgan Wallen Shave His Head?

“Honestly, I just had been talking about it for a couple years,” he began to explain. “I had a shaved head for a long time in high school and maybe I just thought I would never go back to that, I don’t know. But I just kind of got tired of my hair and for a couple years I’ve been telling a lot of people around me that I’m going to shave it. One night I was by myself and shaved it off and that was it.”

Wallen cut his hair in August, debuting his new ‘do during a concert in Columbus, Ohio. The Tennessee native appeared on stage with a bald head and clean-shaven face, addressing the major change a few songs into his set.

“Before we get any further, I didn’t like my long hair anymore, so I shaved it off,” he told the crowd, an announcement that was met with both cheers and boos.

Morgan Wallen Reacts To Fans Dressing Like Him

The “Last Night” singer’s updated hairstyle was likely a disappointment to fans who had been growing out their own mullets in an effort to emulate Wallen’s look. Along with his hair, Wallen had become known for wearing cutoff plaid shirts and denim shorts earlier in his career, and he reflected on his unlikely status as a fashion influencer while speaking with Neal.

“I don’t know that I’ve ever given any advice on fashion. I’m probably not that guy, but it is interesting to see that people care about what I’m wearing [and] what I’m doing [and] how I’m cutting my hair,” he mused. “I never would’ve thought that that would be a thing. Whenever I first had my mullet… really when I had my mullet and then I started rockin’ the cutoffs and I started seeing people showing up to the show, you know? Dudes just looking exactly like me, I realized that people really did listen to what I had to say and just follow what I do. It’s an honor, it’s a privilege. I think it’s cool.”

Why Did Morgan Wallen Grow A Mullet?

During an interview with The Bobby Bones Show in 2019, Wallen shared that his dad was the inspiration behind his famous mullet.

“I went back home for Easter [two years ago] and I was looking through my parents’ photo albums and I got to when they got married and my dad had a mullet when they got married,” he recalled. “Me and my dad are very similar people, like looks-wise [and] acts-wise, everything. If you put up a picture of him when he was my age, we look basically the same. They were 25 when they got married and I was 25 when I was looking at the photo. I thought it looked good, so I figured I’d give it a shot.”

Debuts New Look

In an Instagram post in October, Wallen gave fans an official look at the progress his hair has made since the big shave, posting a photo of himself standing in front of a serene view of trees and a lake that he captioned simply, “Good morning.”

Rather than the fully shaved head he started out with, the singer has been allowing his hair and mustache to grow back, and fans compared his new look to that of a police officer or a character from Top Gun.

Nominated And Is Set To Perform At 2023 CMA Awards

Morgan Wallen is set to appear at the 2023 CMA Awards on Wednesday (Nov. 8) evening at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. At the coveted awards show, Wallen is nominated for three awards, including the prestigious Entertainer of the Year as well as Album Of The Year (One Thing At A Time) and Male Vocalist Of The Year.

Additionally, the East Tennessee native will also be performing twice during the show, singing a medley of country music classics with Post Malone and HARDY and again with a surprise special guest.
