Aside from being a country music superstar, Miranda Lambert has always had a soft side for rescue dogs. In fact, she owns some of her own. But, as with many pet owners, there comes a time when you have to say goodbye to a furry friend — and Lambert has now shared that her beloved Great Pyrenees, Thelma, has passed away.
The “Heart Like Mine” singer took to Instagram on Tuesday (July 25) to share the heartbreaking news of her dog’s death with her more than 4 million followers.
“We Had To Say Goodbye To Our Sweet Thelma”
In a lengthy tribute to her late pup, who died on July 24, 2023, she recalled the day she adopted Thelma and her other Great Pyrenees Louise and talked about how the two canine companions looked after and protected her farm, located on the outskirts of Nashville, Tennessee.
“🌈💕May 1, 2016, I adopted [two] beautiful Great Pyrenees named Thelma and Louise to watch over one of my happiest places on earth. My farm outside of Nashville,” Lambert, 39, shared alongside a slideshow of snapshots and a video, which includes Thelma with Louise on the sprawling property. “The Kitties, chickens, and mini horses needed to be looked after, and these [two] girls have done that since the day we brought them home. They rode on my bus all the way from Dallas to Nashville, and on that 10-hour drive, I fell in love with them. Yesterday we had to say goodbye to our sweet Thelma.”
“I Loved Her With All My Heart”
Although Lambert’s message was saddled in heartbreak, she noted that Thelma lived a joyful life and was able to be close to loved ones during her final hours. Lambert added that the rescue dog spent “the last eight years with no fences, just freedom to do what she did best.”
“She spent her days lounging in the barn and her nights keeping watch over all of us [and] she lived the last eight years with no fences, just freedom to do what she did best. Love and protect. I loved her with all my heart. 💙,” Lambert wrote before giving an update on the other half of the canine duo.
“Louise has retired from her farm duties and is getting all the more love and snuggles from Delta, Bellamy, Cher, Brendan, and me. It hurts so bad to say goodbye to these sweet companions, but their love is always worth it. How lucky are we to get to have friends like Thelma. I am so proud to have been part of her story.”

“We All Miss You Telm Telm”
Lambert closed out her post by sharing gratitude for those who helped take care of Thelma while she was away. She also reiterated her love for Thelma and expressed how much she is going to miss her four-legged buddy.
“Thank you to my friends and farm managers Julia and Tommy for taking such good care of her and every one of my fur babies and loving them like they are your own. We all miss you Telm Telm. 💔 Y’all don’t forget, love a shelter pet.”
As previously shared, Lambert is no stranger to showing her love for rescue dogs as well as all other animals. In 2009, the Texas native launched the MuttNation Foundation with her mom, Bev.

Over the years, the 501c(3) nonprofit organization has raised millions of dollars in their mission to facilitate shelter pet adoptions, encourage spay and neuter for all pets, and educate the public about the benefits of both efforts.
