Madonna was forced to postpone her upcoming massive world tour, dubbed The Celebration Tour, after being hospitalized due to a “serious” infection.
On Wednesday (June 28), Madonna’s longtime manager, Guy Oseary, took to social media to share that the iconic pop star had “developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several day stay in the ICU.” He also revealed that she remains in the intensive care unit at a New York City hospital as she recovers from the severe infection.
“On Saturday, June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which lead to a several day stay in the ICU. Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected,” Oseary added.
Oseary went on to reveal that Madonna’s upcoming massive world tour, dubbed The Celebration Tour, will be postponed until further notice.
“At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows,” he continued.
On Saturday (June 24), the pop superstar was reportedly found unresponsive in New York City and was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was “intubated for at least one night before having the tube removed,” according to Page Six.
The outlet also reports that the 64-year-old “Material Girl” singer is “now alert and recovering” after developing a serious bacterial infection.
Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes Leon, is reportedly by her side at the hospital.
Madonna’s The Celebration Tour Postponed
The 35+ city Celebration Tour was originally slated to kick off on July 15th at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, BC, however it is now unclear when the tour will launch.
Madonna’s Celebration Tour was expected to run through December 1, where the tour was expected to wrap up at Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam, NL.
The trek will visit United States and Canada, as well as United Kingdom and Europe. Produced by Live Nation, the 35-city trek will make stops in several major cities, including Detroit, Chicago, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, and more before making its way to Europe where she will hit 11 cities throughout the fall, including London, Barcelona, Paris, and Stockholm, among others.
Celebrating Madonna’s artistic journey, The Celebration Tour will take fans through her four decades of hits and is expected to pay tribute to the city of New York, where her career in music launched. “I am excited to explore as many songs as possible in hopes to give my fans the show they have been waiting for,” Madonna said.
The tour will offer a one-of-a-kind experience with special guest Bob The Drag Queen (also known as Caldwell Tidicue), who will appear as support in all 35 cities.
The Celebration Tour marks Madonna’s 12th career tour and the first-ever celebration of four decades of music and her greatest hits. Her set list during the celebratory trek is expected to span across her entire career from her debut studio album, Madonna (1983), to her latest release, Madame X (2019).
