Maddox Batson may be young, but his brand-new track proves he is wise beyond his years. The 14-year-old singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist just released a fresh tune called “X’s,” along with a music video to match.

Listen To Maddox Batson “X’s”

“X’s” is a fun-loving, country-pop bop about finding a person who catches your eye in a crowded room. As the tune progresses, the lyrics unveil the idea of stealing a dance with someone in hopes that the connection will blossom into something more, despite both parties being too young to fall in love.

Time’s on pause when we two-step / Love’s on my mind with my hands on your hips / Feels so good, feels so right,” Batson — a likely contender to earn the title of country music’s Justin Bieber and one of the most-buzzed about newcomers in the genre — sings, showing off his swoon-worthy youthful vocals over a slapping guitar rhythm.

Harper Zilmer Stars Alongside Batson In New Music Video

Pairing fittingly with the single, the accompanying clip, directed by Grant Decyk, features Batson as the lead character alongside actress Harper Zilmer, who portrays his teenage love interest. Batson shows charisma and charm throughout the clip as he mouths out the lyrics to the effervescent track. His energy is infectious while he plays the role of a kid with a crush.

Steal a kiss, spin you ’round / Sweep your boots right off the ground / We’re just getting started, girl, my favorite part is / Let ’em talk like they know us / Say we’re way too young to fall in love / Like wе don’t stand a chance / Dancing with these X’s on our hands, ha / Dancing with thеse X’s on our hands,” Batson sings the carefree chorus.

Batson’s creative mind is always at work. And, the young singer/songwriter’s wheels started turning after recalling the night security marked his hand with a giant ‘X’ when he was attending a concert with friends. The teenage talent’s experience of being too young to party at the show sparked the brilliant idea for his new track during a studio and co-writing session.

“X’s’ was inspired by a concert I went to with a couple of my friends,” Batson recalls in a press release. “When I walked in, the security immediately wrote, with a sharpie, a big ole’ ‘X’ on my right hand because I was under 18. The next day, when I was in the studio, one of my co-writers noticed some of the Sharpie was still on my right hand — and we came up with the song name. We all loved it and the rest is history!”

Recently Signed With Warner Records

“X’s” marks Maddox Batson’s debut single following his signing with Warner Records. So fans can expect more of the same from the budding artist in the near future. The catchy tune also comes after Batson found success as a songwriter, earning a credit on Lana Del Rey and Quavo’s latest single, “Tough.” A TikTok sensation, Batson was born just north of Nashville, Tennessee, and raised in Birmingham, Alabama. He got his start online, earning viral success with songs like the more recent “I Wanna Know” and “Tears in the River,” which amassed 21 million global streams and made it into the Top 20 on Spotify’s U.S. viral 50 chart earlier this year.

Batson is keeping busy throughout the rest of 2024. In addition to joining Gabby Barrett on select dates of her tour, on Sat. (Sept. 28), he will host “Maddox Batson & Friends” — a headlining show at the White House Pumpkin Patch in White House, Tennessee.
