Luke Combs shared the story behind his latest country radio single “Better Together” on Friday (Oct. 2).
The track is the second part of Combs’ three part love story with his wife Nicole Hocking Combs. The first part of the story being his smash hit single “Beautiful Crazy,” the second part is “Better Together” and the third is a song that is coming out on his deluxe album called “Forever After All.”
The song is co-written by Combs alongside his good friend Joe Fox and Phil Barton.
“‘Better Together’ is a song I wrote with one of my best friends, Joe Fox, and Phil Barton, and incredible writer, great guy. We’d actually written that song about a year before we tracked it, but we knew we had something cool in the version we wrote back then, but we also knew that it wasn’t quite there, you know the dots weren’t quite connected,” Combs explained of the song. “The night before, literally the night before we went into the studio, Joe and I were hanging out and that song came up and he had an idea of how to work on it, and so we chased that down, and we called Phil and Phil came over and we worked on that song. We finished it that night, and I sent it to Ash (Bowers) who I co-produce my stuff with, and I said, “Man- this might be fresh-baked cookies but I just love this song,” and he said, “Man- I really love it too, we should cut it.” And so we did, and not only did we cut it but it’s the title track to the record. And really right now, I look forward to playing that song live as much as any of them, so it’s a special one for sure.”
Combs’ is scheduled to release the deluxe edition of his chart-topping 2019 album, What You See Is What You Get, dubbed What You See Ain’t Always What You Get on October 23. The deluxe version of the album will include the album’s original 18-tracks as well as five brand new tracks including “Without You,” “The Other Guy” and “Forever After All.” He is set to reveal the five brand new tracks later today (Sept. 18).
The superstar recently took home the ACM Award for his Album Of The Year with What You See Is What You Get, as well as Male Artist Of The Year at this year’s award ceremony in Nashville, TN. He also performed what he called his latest single “Better Together.”
