Luke Combs has the perfect song for anyone still recovering from the Saint Patrick’s Day festivities. The country music superstar has released a brand-new track, and it’s called “5 Leaf Clover.”

The song, which Combs wrote with tunesmiths Jessie Alexander and Chase McGill, finds the North Carolina native showing his gratitude for all of the simple pleasures he gets to enjoy in his life, which includes a job he loves, a family he can come home to, and a “barn with a fridge full of cold beer.” And, while Combs considers himself lucky, he can’t help but wonder how he struck gold.

I know I’m a lucky man / But I ain’t sure why I am / ‘Cause It ain’t like anyone deserves the world in the palm of their hand / I’ve hit my knees / Thankful as can be / But the one thing that I can’t get over / Is how’d a guy like me / Who’d a been fine with three / Wind up with a five-leaf clover,” Combs shows off his signature vocals on the chorus of the track, which features a waltz melody with dancing fiddles and stunning harmonies.

What Is The Story Behind Luke Combs’ “5 Leaf Clover”?

Before releasing his new track, the reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year took to Instagram to share the story of how the tune came to fruition.

In a post, featuring an image of a rare 5-leaf clover, Combs writes, “A while back, my buddy Newdy and I were looking around the clover plot at my house for 4-leaf clovers. I eventually found one, but shortly thereafter, he found a 5-leaf clover, and I thought to myself, ‘Man, how lucky do you have to be to find a 5-leaf clover?’”

“[I] Didn’t think too much of it at the time but wrote that down as a title in my phone,” he continued. “A few weeks later, I was writing with Jessi Alexander and Chase McGill, and it came up. It still wasn’t really anything that jumped off the page to me, but I shared the idea and guitar melody I had with them, and they loved it. We ended up writing the song that day. I eventually started playing it at shows and posting a video of the song, and y’all quickly let me know it was one I had to record; that’s why I’m super pumped for y’all to finally hear it THIS Friday, March 17.”

“5 Leaf Clover” Will Appear On Combs’ New Album, Gettin’ Old

Combs’ “5 Leaf Clover” track arrives just one week before the release of his highly-anticipated 18-track album, Gettin’ Old, which acts as the companion to 2022’s Growin’ Up. The forthcoming album also follows previous full-length projects, What You See is What You Get, and This One’s For You. Other previously released tracks from Gettin’ Old include “Joe,” “Growin’ Up and Gettin’ Old,” and “Love You Anyway.”

Gettin’ Old, produced by Combs with Chip Matthews and Jonathan Singleton, drops on Friday, March 24, via River House Artists/Columbia Nashville.

“This album is about the stage of life I’m in right now. One that I’m sure a lot of us are in, have been through, or will go through,” Combs explained on social media. “It’s about coming of age, loving where life is now but at the same time missing how it used to be, continuing to fall for the one you love and loving them no matter what, living in the moment but still wondering how much time you have left, family, friends, being thankful, and leaving a legacy. Me and so many others have poured their hearts and souls into this record and I hope you love it as much as we do.”
