Thomas Rhett teamed up with Katy Perry for a duet on his just-released new album.
The country superstar’s sixth studio album, Where We Started, is out now everywhere, and the project includes a star-studded list of duets, including one “mind-blowing” collaboration with Perry.
The unexpected collaboration was not originally the plan, however, someone on his team sent the tune to Perry to see if she would be interested in joining Rhett on the track.
“Having Katy Perry featured on this was mind-blowing to me,” Rhett explained during a recent press conference. “Alison Jones at the label sent it to her, and she was immediately like, ‘When do I put my vocal on it?’ I’m sitting there going, ‘Really?’ I’ve always been such a fan of hers. To have her on here really escalated the emotion of that track. It’s a song I think a lot of people are going to relate to and a lot of people are really going to enjoy.”
“I was like, ‘Yeah, but they’re not gonna respond.’… And literally within 24 hours Katy responded and said, ‘I love this. I resonate with this so well,’” Rhett added. “When she put her vocal on it, it took her, like, two weeks. She really put a lot of time and effort into this vocal… This reminded me of how amazing a vocalist she is, and I feel like it really came to life.”

In addition to Perry, Russell Dickerson, Florida Georgia Line’s Tyler Hubbard, and Riley Green also appear on Rhett’s new album.
The album arrived on April 1 and boasts of 15-tracks, including his current single, “Slow Down Summer” and several previously released tracks “Death Row,” “Angels,” “Church Boots.” The project is available now HERE.
