Lainey Wilson was crowned Best New Country Artist at the 2022 iHeartRadio Music Awards on Tuesday evening (Mar. 22).

iHeartRadio Music Awards red carpet hosts Sisanie and Tanya Radon surprised the fast-rising country star and “Things A Man Oughta Know” singer with the trophy for the coveted award during their interview prior to the awards ceremony.

Wilson, donning an all black ensemble emblazoned with silver stars, was shocked upon hearing the news and humbly accepted the honor.

“This is… wow, I’m speechless, I thought I was going to have a little time to prepare just in case,” Wilson said. “This is a huge moment for me, I was always the little girl who had stars in my eyes, who just wanted to go and see the world and I’m originally from Northeast Louisiana, The other LA.” She continued, “This is a huge deal for me and I just appreciate iHeartRadio so much for taking me under their wing and supporting me and for giving me the opportunity to play and just for fans to hear me.”

The chart-topping hitmaker then graciously thanked her fans for sticking by her and supporting her.

“I love y’all, and thank y’all for just loving me no matter what and allowing me to be unapologetically myself,” Wilson gushed.

“This is incredible,” Wilson concluded holding back tears.
