Lainey Wilson is currently working on new music, and for the first time, she’s writing love songs.

Her Boyfriend, Devlin, Now Serves As Her Muse

That’s thanks to her boyfriend, former NFL player Devlin “Duck” Hodges, who Wilson told American Songwriter has been serving as a muse for her in a way she hasn’t experienced before.

“I’m in a very happy, healthy relationship right now and I’ve never written a love song in my life until the last two and a half years,” she shared. “He makes it very easy for me to do that. If I’m going through things, if I’m going through a breakup, or if I’m dealing with a family member being super sick, I’m writing about that.”

“I’m really trying to tune into those things, those true feelings,” the Louisiana native continued. “It’s important for me to take advantage of those feelings and not be scared of them. If anything, it helps me navigate my way through the entire situation and helps me out on the other end of it.”

Wilson Is Working On Her New Album

The singer is currently working on her next project, and while she already has lots of material to choose from, she told the publication that Hodges has a few he prefers. “Of course, the songs that I write about him are his favorite,” she said.

Wilson also shared that it’s “gonna be really easy” to show fans “that different side of me” that Hodges has brought out.

“I am in a very healthy relationship, and you’re gonna be hearing things out of me that I didn’t even know I was capable of,” she said, adding, “It’s really cool when you can completely let those walls down. I’m learning things about myself right now that I didn’t even know [were] possible. I’m able to share more of my life. Being able to say, ‘Hey, I’m happy and healthy and in love,’ it’s something I didn’t know I was gonna get a chance to say.”

Made Their Debut In May At 2023 ACM Awards

Lainey Wilson and Devlin Hodges made their red carpet debut at the ACM Awards in May, where Wilson earned four awards including Album of the Year for 2022’s Bell Bottom Country. The couple had been dating for two years before they went public, which Wilson attributed to wanting to be sure of her boyfriend’s intentions.

“I said, ‘We gonna see if you’re in it for the right reasons.’ Turns out, he is,” she told PEOPLE in June. “Somebody said how funny it was watching him high-five all of my artist friends at the ACMs, and I said, ‘Those are his friends!’”

“He’ll FaceTime me, and he’ll be with HARDY and Morgan [Wallen] and Luke [Combs], and I’m like, ‘Stop stealing all my buddies,’” she continued. “They’ll always be out golfing and drinking a beer. I don’t have to convince anybody to like him. He’s a very lovable person.”

Lainey Wilson Is Happy To Finally Be Able To Talk About Her Boyfriend

Now that her relationship is public knowledge, Wilson shared that “it feels really good to talk about it.”

“Duck is the kind of dude who high-fives me on the way in the door and on the way out and says, ‘Go get it,’” she shared. “He knows how important this dream is to me.”
